Risk-Taking Propensity, Impulsivity and Risky Sexual Behaviors in Arab-Muslim Adults
Background Multiple personality dispositions can be involved in engagement in risky sexual activities. However, our comprehension of the unique mechanisms through which facets of personality place people at risk for risky sexual behaviors (RSB) remains very limited. This study aimed to test the hypothesis that religiosity can serve as a significant moderator between impulsivity and risk-taking propensity personality traits and RSB.Method This stu…
Cross-country validation of the Arabic version of the WHO-5 Well-Being Index in non-clinical young adults from six Arab countries
This study aimed to perform a cross-country validation of the Arabic version of the World Health Organization 5-item (WHO-5) Well-Being Index, in terms of factor structure, composite reliability, cross-gender measurement invariance and concurrent validity. We carried out a cross-sectional, web-based study on a total of 3,247 young adults (aged 18–35 years) from six Arab countries (Tunisia, Lebanon, Egypt, Jordan, Morocco and Kuwait). Confirmatory…
Body image as a mediator in the relationship between psychotic experiences and later disordered eating
BACKGROUND: The relationship between psychosis and disordered eating remains a challenging area of research to which little interest was paid. Using longitudinal data, we aimed to explore the hypothesis that the pathways from psychotic experiences (PEs) to disordered eating (DE) and body-mass index (BMI) are mediated by body-image disturbances. METHODS: = 510, 61.2% females, mean age of 16.05 ± 1.01 years) were asked to complete three scheduled a…
The Relationship between Locus of Control and Psychotic Experiences
Mediating effect of depression and acute stress between exposure to Israel-Gaza war media coverage and insomnia
The present study is the first to provide evidence that more time spent viewing the horrors of war is significantly associated with insomnia. In addition, symptoms of stress and depression were present as early as two weeks following the beginning of the war, and played a significant role in mediating the association between war media coverage and insomnia. These findings suggest that timely screening for, and management of depression and stress …
Suicide literacy mediates the path from religiosity to suicide stigma among Muslim community adults
BACKGROUND: The majority of research attention has been devoted to the link between religiosity and suicide risk, and a considerable amount of studies has been carried out on how stigma impacts individuals with mental health problems of different kinds. However, the interplay between religiosity, suicide literacy and suicide stigma has seldom been empirically researched, especially quantitatively. We sought through this study to redress the imbal…

Mental illness stigma as a moderator in the relationship between religiosity and help-seeking attitudes among Muslims from 16 Arab countries
Our findings preliminarily suggest that mental illness stigma is a modifiable individual factor that seems to strengthen the direct positive effect of religiosity on help-seeking attitudes. This provides potential insights on possible anti-stigma interventions that might help overcome reluctance to counseling in highly religious Arab Muslim communities
Attitudes and beliefs of Tunisian High-School teachers about schizophrenia
BACKGROUND: Teachers have a crucial active role in provision of mental health services to students and fighting against mental health stigma in schools, hence their attitudes and beliefs toward mental illness should be assessed. Existential well-being predicts psychopathy traits in Tunisian college students
Despite the growing interest in researching predictive factors of psychopathic traits in non-criminal samples, little is known about their implications for everyday functioning, such as religious or spiritual beliefs. We aimed to analyze the relationship between psychopathic traits and religiosity and spiritual well-being. We carried out a cross-sectional study of 516 university students enrolled at three major Tunisian universities. The Levenson…
