  • Minute City and beyond

    Open Access•Mingzhi Zhou, Scarlett T Jin•ARTICLE•Cities•2026

The 15-minute City concept has recently gained prominence, reigniting the debate on the ideal urban form and the importance of local versus regional accessibility in promoting vibrant cities. Our study contributes to this scholarship by exploring the relationship between these two scales of accessibility and urban vitality. Using Hong Kong as our case study and based on longitudinal restaurant registration records, we investigate how urban vitali…

  • Unraveling node, place, and resilience during disasters

Open Access•Mingzhi Zhou, Jiali Zhou et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of Disaster…•2026

Public transport-land use integration rarely considers performance during natural disasters, leading to mismatches in demand and functionality. This study introduces “resilience” into the node-place model to examine transport-land use dynamics when disasters occur in cities. Apart from operationalizing “node” (transport provision) and “place” (land use functionalities) at the station level, the “resilience” aspect is measured by node resilience (…

  • Intentional travel group and social network

Open Access•Mingzhi Zhou, Shuyu Lei et al.•ARTICLE•Environment and Planning B Urban…•2025

Using multiday continuous smartcard data in 2020, we investigate group-based travel in Hong Kong metro system by identifying metro riders intentionally traveling in groups (ITGs). ITGs serve as our proxies for citywide physical social interactions. Considering ITG members are interrelated through group-based trips, we construct a social network (an ITG network) formed by ITGs to explore the network properties and structures of ITG activities. Exa…

  • Unravelling cross-boundary travel flow and its place-based explanatory factors in the Hong Kong metro system

    Open Access•Mingzhi Zhou, Hanxi Ma et al.•ARTICLE•Urban Studies•2025•Referencias: 39

Cross-boundary travel flows highlight urban integration and interdependence between cities with territorial boundaries. Cross-boundary travellers exhibit varying travel purposes, behaviours and demands for facilities and opportunities. Existing research rarely conducts large-scale analysis of these distinct travellers and their travel behaviours. This study develops analytical techniques to examine different types of non-local cross-boundary trav…

  • Multiscalar trip resilience and metro station-area characteristics

    Open Access•Mingzhi Zhou, Jiangping Zhou•ARTICLE•Journal of Transport Geography•2024•Citada por: 2•Referencias: 5

  • Structural change and spatial pattern of intentional travel groups

    Open Access•Mingzhi Zhou, Jiangping Zhou•ARTICLE•Applied Geography•2023

  • Introducing social contacts into the node-place model

Open Access•Mingzhi Zhou, Jiali Zhou et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Transport Geography•2023•Referencias: 8

  • Metro travel and perceived Covid-19 infection risks

Open Access•Mingzhi Zhou, Hanxi Ma et al.•ARTICLE•Cities•2023•Citada por: 2•Referencias: 95

  • Re-understanding accessibility through a cognitive process

Yuling Yang, Mingzhi Zhou et al.

  • The heterogeneous relationship between multi-scalar accessibility and economic diversity

Scarlett Ting Jin, Mingzhi Zhou•Referencias: 12

  • Digitally mediated accessibility

    Mingzhi Zhou, Yuling Yang•Referencias: 90

Accessibility metrics often fail to align with actual human behavior due to incomplete spatial knowledge and perceptual biases. The digital era has intensified this gap. Platforms like real-time navigation and social media fundamentally reshape how people acquire information and perceive their spatial options. However, conventional accessibility metrics overlook this digital mediation and struggle to capture large-scale human perception. This stu…
