  • Population Structure and Genetic Demography Among the Ahalehadie-A Muslim Population of Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India

    Open Access•Narahari, S R Narahari et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Human Ecology•2002

Demographic data on 240 ever married women of the Ahalehadie muslim population from Visakhapatnam district, Andhra Pradesh are presented, The population structure designates the Ahalehadies as potentially young and growing or expanding population with varied infant mortality. High frequency of cross-cousin marriages in consanguinity in the present study show deviation from North Indian Muslims but closest with Hindu castes in Andhra Pradesh, Sout…

  • Habits and Reproductive Performance in a Food Gathering Tribe of Andhra Pradesh, India

    Open Access•Narahari, S R Narahari et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Human Ecology•2002

Fertility, mortality and habits like smoking, tobacco chewing and alcoholism are studied for 247 couples of Chenchu Tribe of Andhra Pradesh. An increase in Reproductive Wastage i.e., Still Births and Abortions and decrease in fertility are evident indicating the dearth of much data on other populations on this line

  • Dermatoglyphic Variation in the Nooka Dora of Andhra Pradesh

    Open Access•Narahari, S R Narahari et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Human Ecology•1998

Finger and palm print data on 285 Nooka Doras form eleven villages of Ananthagiri Mandal of Visakhapamam District. Andhra Pradesh are presented. Palm rather than finger revealed greater variation There is a positive correlation between the digital ridge count and ridge count estimated from triradial point to the basal crease of the digit

  • Blood Groups and Sickle Cell Haemoglobin in Kapu Chakali - A Caste Population of Andhra Pradesh

    Open Access•G V Ramana, Narahari et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Human Ecology•1996•Referencias: 1

The Kapu Chakali, an endogamous caste population of Andhra Pradesh was studied for ABO and Rh (D) blood groups and sickle-cell haemoglobin. A preponderance of blood group A over B and a low frequency of Rh (D)-ves were observed. The sickle cell trail was observed with a frequency fo 6% which is high compared to other caste populations of Andhra Pradesh

  • Dermatoglyphic Variation in The Mali

    Open Access•Narahari, S R Narahari et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Human Ecology•1995

Finger and Palm print data on a total of 343 Main from 10 villages of Visakhapatnam district, Andhra Pradesh are presented. Palmar quantitative characters exhibited inter group difference between the two Mali sub-groups — the Bodo Mali and Sung Mali suggesting the operation of micro-evolutionary forces, especially keeping in view the small population size of the Bodo Mali. This corroborates the work of Malhotra et al. (1974, 1981) on the Nandiwal…

  • Colour blindness and natural selection

    Narahari, S Narahari•ARTICLE•Anthropologischer Anzeiger•1993

  • Selection intensities and consanguineity in the Yadava and Vadabalija of Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India

    G R Rajeswari, G Rajeswari et al.•ARTICLE•Biodemography and Social Biology•1992•Referencias: 2

The opportunity for intensity of selection is studied in two backward caste groups with different occupations, namely Yadava (pastoral) and Vadabalija (fishing) of Bheemunipatnam Taluk of Visakhapatnam District, Andhra Pradesh. The amount of selection intensity is found to be higher in Vadabalija (0.8583) than Yadava (0.5827). The contribution of mortality to the total index of selection is greater in Vadabalija (0.6095) than in Yadava (0.3326). …

  • ABO Blood Group Incompatibility and Consanguinity in Relation to Reproductive Performance

Open Access•C Raja Rajeswari, Narahari et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Human Ecology•1992•Referencias: 1

ABO hided stoup Incompatibility and parental consanguinity on fertility and mortality in 117 Vadabalija Marine Pasitsuit) and 138 Yadava (Shepherds) of Andhra Pradesh reveal the positive effect of Incompatibility can increase in the mean number of pregnancies; while the incompatibility and consanguinity together yield move number of post-natal deaths. Between the two castes, the Vadabalijas show lower values for all the variables studied than the…

  • Red Cell G-6-PD and Sickle Cell Haemoglobin Among Four Nomadic Isolates of Andhra Pradesh

    Open Access•Narahari, S R Narahari et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Human Ecology•1991

The Incidence of G-6-PD deficiency and and Sickle Cell trait among the Suvvi Badda, Uppu and Kunchap nomadic groups of an Andhra Tribe - Yerukala is reported. Relatively higher values of G-6-TD and HbA3 were noticed for the Kunchi and the Suvvi, respectively. The results though supports malrial-selection hypotheses, yet the role of natural selection depends upon the original possession of concerned gene is one’s gene pool
