Isaiah 12 and the Composition of the Book of Isaiah
Isaiah 12 has close phraseological links with the preceding chapters, with chapters 40-55, and with the Psalms (including Exodus 15). This suggests that it was composed deliberately for its present location and that the apparent lack of unity within the chapter should not be explained by the common hypothesis that it drew on two separate previously-existing psalms. Text-critical evidence suggests that verse 4 should be read as singular, not plura…
Comments on New Editions of the Hebrew Scriptures
This paper is based upon an oral commentary relating to the descriptions of five Hebrew Bible and related textual editions that are currently in preparation. In order to balance the remarks offered by Tov, chief attention is focussed on the edition of the Samaritan Pentateuch being prepared by S. Schorch and on the Biblia Qumranica under the direction of A. Lange.

The Book of Micah
A comprehensive new translation and commentary by one of today's most widely acclaimed scholars in the field.Professor McKane's work, referring closely to the Hebrew text, the Ancient Versions, and the Jewish medieval commentaries, has a strong textual and lexicographical interest. McKane contends that the Book of Micah represents considerably more than the work of the eighth-century prophet, being developed and supplemented as it discharged a fu…

Sound, Sense and Language in Isaiah 24-27

Previous explanations of Aramaic ʾeben gĕlāl, including those of Bowman (1965) and Stager (1985), are examined and found to be unsatisfactory. The use of gll in an Aramaic gloss to one of the Elamite fortification tablets from Persepolis is discussed against the linguistic and historical background of the Elamite text in question. Applying the results to the phrase in Ezra 5:8 and 6:4, it is concluded that a paraphrase such as "specially selected…
