  • Preservation challenges for heritage landscapes during historic-city transformation

Open Access•Suhua Wang, Jing Zhang et al.•ARTICLE•Cogent Arts and Humanities•2026

This paper examines how an investment-driven programme reshaped the heritage landscape of Datong Ancient City, 2008–2024, with a follow-up in February 2025. Guided by the 2021 Call for Action marking the tenth anniversary of the 2011 UNESCO Recommendation on the Historic Urban Landscape, we adapt and localise an existing challenge framework and operationalise it through directed qualitative content analysis and process tracing within a parameteri…

  • Interior Design Features and Emotional Experiences of Older Adults in Community Day Care Centers

Lintong Li, Suhua Wang et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Aging and Environment•2026•Referencias: 111

Despite growing attention to the emotional and psychological health of older adults, the interior environments of community day care centers still prioritize function and physical safety and lack a systematic mechanism to translate emotional needs into actionable design strategies. This study uses the three-level theory of emotional design (TTED) to build a validation pathway that links a systematic literature review with expert evidence. We firs…

  • Directive Guidance as a Cultural Practice for Learning by Chinese-Heritage Babies

Open Access•Yu Zhang, Suhua Wang et al.•ARTICLE•Human Development•2021

We provide a framework of analysis for Chinese ways of learning that extends beyond the individual level. The theoretical framework focuses on Confucian principles of xiào (孝, filial piety), guăn (管, to govern), and dào dé guān (道德觀, virtues), which leads us to argue that directive guidance as a cultural practice nourishes Chinese-heritage children’s learning as early as in infancy. To illustrate how directive guidance occurs in action for infant…

  • Negative cognitive and psychological correlates of mandatory quarantine during the initial Covid-19 outbreak in China

Meiqi Xin, Sitong Luo et al.•ARTICLE•American Psychologist•2020•Citada por: 10•Referencias: 2

Quarantine plays a key role in controlling the pandemic of 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19). This study investigated (a) the associations between mandatory quarantine status and negative cognitions (perceived discrimination because of COVID-19 and perceived risk of COVID-19 infection)/mental health status (emotional distress because of COVID-19, probable depression, and self-harm/suicidal ideation), (b) the associations between the negative co…

Na Wang, Suhua Wang et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS Care•2019

To evaluate the association between general self-efficacy and depression/anxiety among newly HIV-diagnosed Chinese men who have sex with men (MSM) in Beijing, our study evaluated the baseline survey data of MSM taking part in a clinical trial among Chinese MSM in Beijing. The baseline survey of the trial was conducted between March 2013 and March 2014. General self-efficacy and depression/anxiety were measured using standard scales. Logistic regr…

  • Self-Esteem as Folk Theory

Peggy J Miller, Suhua Wang et al.•ARTICLE•Parenting•2002•Citada por: 20•Referencias: 10

Objective. Self-esteem is seldom recognized to be a culture-specific, historically situated idea, and parents' folk theories of self-esteem are rarely investigated empirically. This paper remedies these omissions by comparing European American and Taiwanese mothers' beliefs about childrearing and self-esteem. The substantive goals are to understand the variety of meanings that these mothers associate with self-esteem and to delineate the local fo…
