  • Ischemic but Not Thermal Pain Sensitivity Varies Across the Menstrual Cycle

Roger B Fillingim, WILLIAM MAIXNER et al.•ARTICLE•Psychosomatic Medicine•1997

OBJECTIVE AND METHOD: Findings from both animal and human research suggest that pain sensitivity changes across the menstrual cycle; however, among humans the nature of these menstrual cycle effects remains unclear. The present study used a repeated-measures design to evaluate changes in thermal and ischemic pain responses during three phases of the menstrual cycle, midfollicular (postmenstrual), ovulatory, and mid-to-late luteal (premenstrual), …

  • Testosterone and religiosity as predictors of sexual attitudes and activity among adolescent males

    Open Access•Carolyn T Halpern, J Richard Udry et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Biosocial Science•1994

A biosocial model of the effects of early adolescent testosterone levels and religiosity on adolescent males' sexual attitudes and activity over a 3-year period was examined. Using panel data for approximately 100 boys who were 12·5/13·0 years old at study entry, significant additive effects of free testosterone and frequency of attendance at religious services were demonstrated on the transition to first intercourse and other aspects of sexual b…

  • Genetic studies of serum transferrins of free‐ranging rhesus macaques of Cayo Santiago, Macaca mulatta (Zimmerman 1780)

    Open Access•John Buettner‐janusch, George A Mason et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1974•Citada por: 16•Referencias: 24

Transferrin phenotypes of plasma from 687 semi‐free‐ranging Macaca mulatta living on Cayo Santiago, Puerto Rico, were determined by starch‐gel electrophoresis and autoradiography. Fifteen phenotypes, homozygous or heterozygous products of six codominant autosomal alleles, were present in the population. The 687 animals, prior to March 1973, were divided into eight troops plus peripheral males. By March 1, 1973 the size of the population was reduc…

  • Primate red cell enzymes

    Open Access•John Buettner‐janusch, Lauren Dame et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1974•Citada por: 11•Referencias: 20

Glucose‐6‐phosphate dehydrogenase (E. C.: 1.1.1.49) phenotypes and 6‐phosphogluconate dehydrogenase (E. C.: 1.1.1.44) phenotypes were determined by starch‐gel electrophoresis of red cell hemolysates of Galago crassicaudatus subspp., Propithecus verreauxi, Lemur spp., Hapalemur griseus , and Macaca mulatta . A single glucose‐6‐phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) phenotype was found in each species. A single 6‐phosphogluconate dehydrogenase (6PGD) pheno…

  • Transferrins, haptoglobins, and ceruloplasmins among tribal groups of Madagascar

    Open Access•John Buettner‐janusch, Richard Reisman et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1973•Referencias: 8

Transferrin phenotypes of 403 Malagasy were determined by autoradiography after electrophoresis of plasma or serum. Three phenotypes, Tf C, Tf CD, and Tf D, were found. The frequency of Tf D was 0.051 in the total sample, 0.041 in tribes of the Madagascar plateau, and 0.075 in tribes of the coastal and lowland regions. Haptoglobin phenotypes of 402 Malagasy were determined. The frequency of Hp 1 was 0.41 in the total sample, 0.38 in tribes of the…
