  • A twin study of dental dimension. I. Discordance, asymmetry, and mirror imagery

    Open Access•Rosario H Potter, Walter E Nance•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1976•Citada por: 29•Referencias: 2

Bilateral tooth measurements in twins were partitioned into three orthogonal contrasts, each associated with one degree of freedom, to estimate three parameters: discordance, asymmetry, and mirror imagery. The probability levels of the within‐pair variance ratios were used to test for significance of these estimates. The results provided strong evidences for the existence of significant genetic determinants of almost all of the individual tooth d…

  • A twin study of dental dimension. II. Independent genetic determinants

    Open Access•Rosario H Potter, Walter E Nance et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1976•Citada por: 28•Referencias: 5

To demonstrate the presence of independent genetic determinants of multiple correlated tooth dimensions from twin data, a multivariate analysis was performed on the covariance matrices of monozygotic and dizygotic within‐pair differences for mesiodistal and buccolingual dimensions of 28 teeth of the secondary dentition. The results provided strong evidences that the correlation among tooth dimensions is primarily genetic in origin, probably attri…

  • Multivariate analysis of craniofacial measurements in twin and family data

    Open Access•Minoru Nakata, Pao‐Lo Yu et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1974•Citada por: 11•Referencias: 5

Thirty‐three cephalometric variables and height have been measured on each of 630 individuals (316 male and 314 female) from 157 families. After age and sex differences were adjusted for each measurement, a rotated factor analysis was undertaken to account for the variation by a limited number of linear combinations of the adjusted measurements. It was found that most of the variation could be explained by nine independent factors. Finally, corre…
