  • Reassessment of the paleoenvironment and preservation of hominid fossils from Hadar, Ethiopia

    Open Access•Stefan C Radosevich, Gregory J Retallack et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1992•Citada por: 4•Referencias: 12

Samples of paleosols from locality AL‐333, known for numerous specimens of Australopithecus afarensis , were analyzed in order to reconstruct the original soils and environment of burial of the associated fossil hominids. The bones were found in swale‐like features, within the calcareous and coarse‐grained basal portion of a paleosol. This is more like an assemblage of bones buried during a single depositional episode, such as a flood, than an as…

  • Results of Instrument Neutron-Activation Trace-Element Analysis of Human Remains from the Naknek Region, Southwest Alaska

    Open Access•Roger K Harritt, C Radosevich et al.•ARTICLE•American Antiquity•1992•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 28

An attempt to replicate results of a previous dietary trace-element study of northwestern Alaska (Connor and Slaughter 1984) was made with human- and animal-bone samples from the Naknek region, southwest Alaska. Trace elements of special interest are strontium and zinc because of previously postulated relation of abundances of these elements to marine and terrestrial dietary foci in human remains from archaeological sites (i.e., Nelson et al. 198…
