  • Guard the Good Deposit’

    Open Access•Sylvain Bauvai, S Bauvais et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2018•Citada por: 5•Referencias: 14

In the early days of iron metallurgy in Western Europe, the most widespread type of ‘trade iron’ (semi‐product) was bipyramidal in shape. Although they are frequently found, little is known about how they were manufactured and circulated, or even about their age. An interdisciplinary approach was applied to the Durrenentzen deposit (Haut‐Rhin, France), the third‐largest in Europe in terms of artefact quantities, in an attempt to reconstruct the t…

  • Iron Supply for the Building of Metz Cathedral

Open Access•Alexandre Disser, PH Dillmann et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2017•Citada por: 11•Referencias: 29

This paper develops new reflections regarding the provenance of iron artefacts, by defining the trade networks that might have supplied the building yard of the Metz city belfry at the end of the 15th century. Regional field surveys were carried out in Lorraine in order to constitute a chemical repository, including ironmaking zones considered as the most probable metal providers. The chemical characterization—both major and trace elements—of sla…

  • Cargoes of Iron Semi‐Products Recovered from Shipwrecks off the C armel Coast, I srael

Open Access•Ehud Galili, Sylvain Bauvai et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2015•Citada por: 3•Referencias: 12

Underwater surveys along the I sraeli C armel coast have revealed six cargoes of iron semi‐products associated with shipwrecks. They are described and dated according to the associated artefacts. Metallographic and chemical analyses on samples from the biggest cargo have determined the stages of the chaîne opératoire , identified the properties of the iron and characterized the iron trade along the I sraeli coast. The new discoveries contribute t…
