    Open Access•Qian Fang, Karen R Fisher et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Population Ageing•2026•Referencias: 5

Improving mental health support for older people from culturally diverse backgrounds needs evidence about their understanding of wellbeing and how their perspectives are reflected in practice. This study examined the consistency of older people’s sense of mental wellbeing with the COMPAS-Wellbeing Scale. Qualitative data were collected from a multicultural peer support group. During COVID-19 lockdown, older people from over 14 countries and cultu…

  • The 12-year longitudinal impact of risk and resilience trajectories on adult health following childhood trauma

    Open Access•Elizabeth Connon, Haeme R P Park et al.•ARTICLE•American Psychologist•2026

While adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are known to increase mental illness risk, their long-term impact on comprehensive mental well-being-and resilience from a strengths-based lens-has been less explored. This study examined well-being trajectories in individuals with and without ACEs and their ability to predict functional outcomes over 12 years. The TWIN-10 longitudinal study followed 1,668 healthy Australian adults at four time points (2…

  • Measuring mental wellbeing in children aged 5 to 12 years

Open Access•Janine Lam, Janine R Lam et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2025

The COMPAS-KIDS and COMPAS-PARENTS scales are reliable and valid measures of mental wellbeing for children aged 5 to 12 years. The collection of surveys from both child and parent are recommended when measuring mental wellbeing. Future studies could consider validation of the scales in independent cohorts that include both clinical and non-clinical cohorts

  • Measuring mental wellbeing in clinical and non-clinical adolescents using the Compas-W Wellbeing Scale

Open Access•Janine Lam, Janine R Lam et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2024

In conclusion, the 23-item COMPAS-W is a reliable measure of wellbeing for adolescents, both for those with and without developmental and psychiatric diagnoses

  • Approach Coping Mitigates Distress of Covid-19 Isolation for Young Men With Low Well-Being in a Sample of 1,749 Youth From Australia and the USA

    Open Access•Phillip Cheng, Haeme R P Park et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2021

The unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic has led to lockdowns across the world with people being separated from their loved ones including partners, family, and friends. Here, using a large sample of 1,749 Australians and Americans, we investigated the impact of COVID-19 isolation on younger populations (13-25 years), and the influence of coping strategies and mental well-being on this impact. Overall, COVID-19 isolation had a more negative impact on …

  • Trauma, Resilience, and Mental Health in Migrant and Non-Migrant Youth

Open Access•Justine M Gatt, Rebecca Alexander et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2020

Resilience is a dynamic process of positive adaptation to significant adversity. While there has been substantial focus on risks and negative outcomes associated with youth migrancy, there is limited evidence of the relationship between the adversity of migration, and resilience, wellbeing, and positive mental health in adolescents. This international study aimed to explore the differences in resilience, wellbeing, and mental health behaviors in …

  • Challenges of developing and conducting an international study of resilience in migrant adolescents

    Open Access•Kristin Hadfield, M Ungar et al.•ARTICLE•International Social Work•2018•Referencias: 1

The sequelae of migration and the effects of local migration policies on children’s physical and mental health are critical to examine, particularly given the historically high numbers of migrants and displaced people. The vulnerability of the study sample and the need to work across cultures and contexts makes research on this group challenging. We outline lessons learned through conducting a pilot study of resilience resources and mental health…

  • Genetic and environmental influences on emotion regulation

Kateri Mcrae, Soo Hyun Rhee et al.•ARTICLE•Emotion•2017

Previous studies have established that personality traits related to emotionality are moderately heritable. However, the relative heritability of the strategies people use to regulate emotions is unknown. The present study compared the magnitude of additive genetic, shared environmental, and nonshared environmental influences on 2 commonly used emotion regulation strategies: cognitive reappraisal and expressive suppression. In 743 twin pairs (1,4…
