A Holocene floodplain sequence from the Kirenga Valley, Lake Baikal region (Siberia), and its significance for molluscan and mammalian biogeography
The archaeological record in the Baikal region is characterised by a marked discontinuity separating different groups of hunter-gatherers within the Neolithic period. A range of sedimentary archives has been studied to investigate this issue and whether it had an environmental cause. Our focus has been on floodplain sequences from river valleys, which can augment other higher resolution records such as those from lakes. Here we report on the moll…
Mid-Late Quaternary Fluvial Archives near the Margin of the MIS 12 Glaciation in Southern East Anglia, UK
This paper presents an updated geological reconstruction of the Quaternary evolution of the River Thames at its downstream extremities, close to the North Sea coast, based on new data from multi-disciplinary and citizen-science sources. In this area, the interaction of the Thames with the MIS 12 (Anglian) glaciation is an important part of the Quaternary archive. The Anglian ice sheet, which reached parts of north and east London, was responsible…
Late Glacial and Holocene environmental change reconstructed from floodplain and aeolian sediments near Burdukovo, lower Selenga River Valley (Lake Baikal region), Siberia
The Early and early Middle Pleistocene context of human occupation and lowland glaciation in Britain and northern Europe
The Environmental and Social Context of the Isleham Hoard
This paper describes the rediscovery of the exact location for the Isleham hoard ( tl 63197253) and presents the results of related fieldwork; it briefly reviews the metallurgical significance of the hoard, and discusses its local environmental and social context, as well as the distribution of founder's hoards within the Fenland region. The hoard was found to have been placed in a pit dug into a filled-in Bronze Age boundary ditch, next to a rec…
Humans in the Hoxnian
A Lower Palaeolithic industry at Beeches Pit, West Stow, Suffolk, occurs within an interglacial sequence that immediately overlies glacial deposits, referable to the Anglian Lowestoft Formation. There is strong biostratigraphical evidence from both vertebrates and molluscs that the interglacial represented is the Hoxnian (MIS 11). This conclusion is supported by uranium series dates from carbonate nodules (>400 kyr), TL dates from burnt flint (41…

Radiocarbon age determinations of fossil Margaritifera auricularia (Spengler) from the River Thames in West London
The biostratigraphy and dating of a postglacial slope deposit at Gore Cliff, near Blackgang, Isle of Wight
The biostratigraphy and dating of the tufa deposit at the mesolithic site at Blashenwell, Dorset, England
