  • Nuts'a'maat shqwaluwun — Knitting ways of life with Indigenous research principles to examine preterm birth in Quw'utsun

Open Access•Tˈultunaat Lydia Seymour, Dincy Peter et al.•ARTICLE•Canadian Journal of Public Health•2025•Referencias: 13

Indigenous Peoples have an inherent and legislated right to self-determination, including the right to lead research involving them. Several principles within Nuts'a'maat shqwaluwun enabled Quw'utsun people to lead this research: (1) trusting relationships; (2) respecting community-specific ways of life; (3) community ownership and access to data; and (4) training opportunities to lead research

  • The impact of age and familiarity with the environment on categorical and coordinate spatial relation representations

Open Access•Maureen C Ashe, Antonella Lopez et al.•ARTICLE•Scandinavian Journal of Psychology•2021

Retrieving spatial information is a crucial everyday ability that is affected by age‐related changes. Previous research has shown that this change is mediated by familiarity with an environment. The present research uses a series of landmark location tasks to extend and deepen our understanding of the role of aging in spatial mental representations of more or less familiar environments, also disentangling the contribution of coordinate and catego…

  • Implementation of shared decision-making in healthcare policy and practice

    Sarah Munro, Jude Kornelsen et al.•ARTICLE•Evidence & Policy•2019•Referencias: 6

Background: Despite the suggested benefits of shared decision-making (SDM), its implementation in policy and practice has been slow and inconsistent. Use of complex adaptive systems (CAS) theory may provide understanding of how healthcare system factors influence implementation of SDM. Methods: Using the example of choice of mode of birth after a previous caesarean section, in-depth, semi-structured interviews were conducted with patients, provid…

  • Does Molimina Indicate Ovulation? Prospective Data in a Hormonally Documented Single-Cycle in Spontaneously Menstruating Women

Open Access•Jerilynn C Prior, Chiaki Konishi et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2018

Approximately 33% of normal-length (21−35 days) cycles have subclinical ovulatory disturbances and lack sufficient progesterone, although their normal length ensures enough estrogen. Subclinical ovulatory disturbances are related to significant premenopausal spine bone loss (-0.86%/year). Molimina, non-distressing premenstrual experiences, may detect ovulation within normal-length cycles. This prospective study assessed the relationship between m…

  • IOM guidelines for gestational weight gain

    Amal R Khanolkar, Grace E Hanley et al.•ARTICLE•Ethnicity and Health•2017•Referencias: 1

Objective: To determine whether the Institute Of Medicine's (IOM) 2009 guidelines for weight-gain during pregnancy are predictive of maternal and infant outcomes in ethnic minority populations. Methods: We designed a population-based study using administrative data on 181,948 women who delivered live singleton births in Washington State between 2006-2008. We examined risks of gestational hypertension, preeclampsia/eclampsia, cesarean delivery, an…

  • Factors affecting the acceptability and consumption of Corn Soya Blend Plus as a prenatal dietary supplement among pregnant women in rural Cambodia

Open Access•Amynah Janmohamed, Crystal D Karakochuk et al.•ARTICLE•Public Health Nutrition•2016

Objective Undernutrition is prevalent among pregnant women in Cambodia. The provision of fortified dietary supplements is one strategy to help pregnant women meet their nutritional needs. Corn Soya Blend Plus (CSBP) is a widely used prenatal dietary supplement in areas with high rates of undernutrition and food insecurity. However, little is known about its acceptability during pregnancy. The present study aimed to identify factors that affected …

  • Correlates of Abuse Around the Time of Pregnancy

Open Access•Dawn Kingston, Maureen Heaman et al.•ARTICLE•Maternal and Child Health Journal•2015

  • Investigating maternal risk factors as potential targets of intervention to reduce socioeconomic inequality in small for gestational age

Open Access•Irene Hayward, Lorraine Halinka Malcoe et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2012

Our findings regarding maternal height may indicate trans-generational aetiology for socioeconomic SGA inequalities and/or that adult height influences social mobility. Conditions affecting foetal and childhood growth might be viable targets to reduce absolute socioeconomic SGA inequality in future generations, but more research is needed to determine whether such an approach is appropriate

Nina Daoud, Nihaya Daoud et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•2012•Citada por: 6•Referencias: 52

Objectives. We describe the prevalence of abuse before, during, and after pregnancy among a national population-based sample of Canadian new mothers. Methods. • Birth Outcomes Among Older Mothers in Rural Versus Urban Areas

Open Access•Sarka Lisonkova, Samuel B Sheps et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Rural Health•2011

PURPOSE: We examined the association between rural residence and birth outcomes in older mothers, the effect of parity on this association, and the trend in adverse birth outcomes in relation to the distance to the nearest hospital with cesarean-section capacity. METHODS: A population-based retrospective cohort study, including all singleton births to 35+ year-old women in British Columbia (Canada), 1999-2003. We compared birth outcomes in rural …
