Development and testing of the Hogan Inventory of Bereavement short form for children and adolescents
To reduce response burden for bereaved children and adolescents, we provide data on the development and psychometric testing of a short form of the Hogan Sibling Inventory of Bereavement (HSIB). The resulting measure of grief symptoms and personal growth was renamed the Hogan Inventory of Bereavement - Short Form (Children and Adolescents; HIB-SF-CA). This study explored parental self-identity at 6, 12, and 18 months following the death of a child to cancer. Semi-structured interviews were analyzed using qualitative methodology. We investigated longitudinally parental perceptions of siblings' bereavement after childhood cancer death. Parents were interviewed 6 months (n = 25) and 18 months (n = 75) post-death. Adapting to health impacts of climate change
Adapting to the health effects of climate change is one of the key challenges facing public health this century. Our knowledge of progress on adaptation, however, remains in its infancy. Using the Fifth National Communications of Annex I parties to the UNFCCC, 1912 initiatives are systematically identified and analyzed. 80% of the actions identified consist of groundwork (i.e. preparatory) action, with only 20% constituting tangible adaptations. …
Comparison of Continuing Bonds Reported by Parents and Siblings After a Child's Death from Cancer
Few studies have distinguished similarities and differences between continuing bonds as they appear in various bereaved populations, particularly parent versus sibling cohorts following a child's death. This mixed-method study compared how parents and siblings experienced continuing bonds in 40 families who lost a child to cancer. Group treatment program for abusive husbands
Long-term outcomes of a short-term group treatment program for abuse husbands were investigated in a controlled study. Recidivism rates, based on police reports, were found to be lower than those for a control group of untreated abusive husbands; they were also found to be lower for those men initially exhibiting greater depression. Implications for further research are discussed
