This research examines the association between racial/ethnic discrimination and mental health among women university students in light of the increase in racially motivated hate crimes since the 2016 United States presidential election. A cross-sectional survey design was implemented at a mid-sized public university between November, 2017 and May, 2018. Stone Age Eyes and Ears
In 2006, the authors initiated the Landscape & Perception (L&P) project under the aegis of the Royal College of Art (RCA), London. The project is a pilot study of raw visual and acoustic elements mainly on and around the Carn Menyn ridge, Mynydd Preseli, south-west Wales, the source area of some of the Stonehenge bluestones, an area still relatively untouched by modern development. Indications of an Acoustic Landscape at Bryn Celli Ddu, Anglesey, North Wales
This Note reports on an initial observation made in 2012 of a distinct sound reflection of a percussive incident noise made at the restored Neolithic chambered tomb of Bryn Celli Ddu that emanated from an outcrop of rock in the ritual landscape surrounding the monument. The outcrop is marked with numerous cupmarks, presumably singling it out as a place of some kind of significance in Neolithic times. Audio recording of the point-specific echo in …

Dream content can be influenced by external sounds, smells, touch, objects glimpsed with half-open eyes during REM sleep, and somatic signals.This paper suggests that this individual, neurologically-driven process parallels that experienced collectively by pre-industrial tribal and traditional peoples in which the land itself entered into the mental lives of whole societies, forming mythic geographies-dreamscapes.This dreamtime perception was par…

A variety of public campaigns, including the "Just Say No" campaign of the 1980s and 1990s that encouraged teenagers to "Just Say No to Drugs", are based on the premise that teenagers are very susceptible to peer influences. A Ceiling Painting in the Hal-Saflieni Hypogeum as Acoustically-Related Imagery
This preliminary paper examines the ceiling painting in the “Oracle Room” in the Neolithic Hal-Saflieni Hypogeum, Malta. Visual evidence is found of associations between the painted imagery and a wall niche possessing exceptional acoustic qualities, considered by some to have functioned as a “speaking tube” for oracular pronouncements. This article discusses preliminary data on advancing what we know about "sacred sites" and their effects on dreaming. Thirty-five volunteers spent between one and five nights in one of four unfamiliar outdoor sacred sites in England and Wales. Another volunteer awakened them following the observation of rapid eye movement and asked for dream recall. The same volunteers monitored their own dreams in familiar home surroundings, keeping dream diarie…

Thirty-five volunteers spent between one and five nights in one of four unfamiliar outdoor “sacred sites” in England and Wales where they were awakened following rapid eye movement periods and asked for dream recall. They also monitored their dreams in familiar home surroundings, keeping dream diaries. Equal numbers of site dreams and home dream reports were obtained for each volunteer. Two judges, working blind and independently, evaluated each …
