  • Redefining Paradigm for Computer‐Aided Language Instruction

    Open Access•Marjorie McShane•ARTICLE•Foreign Language Annals•2003•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 3

This article proposes a means by which inflectional paradigms can be promoted from their primary present status as references at the end of textbooks to a more central role in the language learning process. This can be done by encouraging each student to determine how words of a given part of speech divide into paradigms, and how those paradigms will be visually represented. This reinterpretation of the largely frozen notion of “paradigm” is deri…

  • Bootstrapping Morphological Analyzers by Combining Human Elicitation and Machine Learning

    Open Access•Kemal Ofazer, Sergei Nirenburg et al.•ARTICLE•Computational Linguistics•2001•Referencias: 1

This paper presents a semiautomatic technique for developing broad-coverage finite-state morphological analyzers for use in natural language processing applications. It consists of three components—elicitation of linguistic information from humans, a machine learning bootstrapping scheme, and a testing environment. The three components are applied iteratively until a threshold of output quality is attained. The initial application of this techniq…

  • Verbal Ellipsis in Russian, Polish and Czech

Marjorie McShane, Marjorie J McShane•ARTICLE•The Slavic and East European…•2000•Citada por: 2
