  • Techniques for Evaluating and Improving Instruction

    Lee H Bowker, Lawrence M Aleamoni•ARTICLE•Teaching Sociology•1988

The interest in and continuing need for evaluating teaching exists at every level of education. A crucial problem of evaluating faculty services in any institution is not only that of identifying and measuring teaching effectiveness but of identifying and measuring agreements as to the weight to be placed on various faculty responsibilities. The aim of this volume of New Directions for Teaching and Learning is to provide faculty and administrator…

  • The Role of Weighting in the Use of Aggregate Scores

    Open Access•Joseph J Stevens, Lawrence M Aleamoni•ARTICLE•Educational and Psychological…•1986

In a recent article, Gardner and Erdle (1984) have argued inappropriately against prior standardization of scores when an aggregate score is formed. They demonstrate that an aggregate of raw scores may not correlate perfectly with an aggregate of standard scores, and that the correlation of an external criterion with the two types of aggregates may differ markedly. However, these effects are not a function of standardization. They are an artifact…

  • Act Versus Sat in Predicting First Semester GPA

    Open Access•Lawrence M Aleamoni, Linda Oboler•ARTICLE•Educational and Psychological…•1978

Previous research has suggested that although ACT and SAT are equally capable of predicting first semester college grades, ACT seems to predict first semester GPA more accurately at highly selective institutions. The present study found, instead, that SAT was the more valid predictor at a highly selective midwestern university. In addition, comparisons were made between the long and short form results of the SAT to determine equivalency of the te…

  • Development and Factorial Validation of the Arizona Course/Instructor Evaluation Questionnaire

    Open Access•Lawrence M Aleamoni•ARTICLE•Educational and Psychological…•1978

Development of the Arizona Course/Instructor Evaluation Questionnaire is the result of over 15 years of research and experience in the area of instructional evaluation. The method of constructing the initial item pool, successive data analyses, subscale development, and normative data generation are described. Related research is presented demonstrating the reliability and validity of the Arizona Course/Instructor Evaluation Questionnaire

  • The Relation of Sample Size to the Number of Variables in Using Factor Analysis Techniques

    Open Access•Lawrence M Aleamoni•ARTICLE•Educational and Psychological…•1976

The relationship of sample size to number of variables in the use of factor analysis has been treated by many investigators. In attempting to explore what the minimum sample size should be, none of these investigators pointed out the constraints imposed on the dimensionality of the variables by using a sample size smaller than the number of variables. A review of studies in this area is made as well as suggestions for resolution of the problem

  • Teacher Folklore and Sensitivity of a Course Evaluation Questionnaire

    Open Access•Lawrence M Aleamoni, Makonnen Yimer et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1972

The purpose of this study was to determine if (a) “folklore” about a teacher contributes to his ratings on a course evaluation questionnaire and (b) changes in students' attitudes during the course of instruction can be determined with a questionnaire on course evaluation. Multivariate analysis of variance and discriminant analysis, ideally suited for this type of research, were employed. The results indicated that there were no significant diffe…
