  • Association of food insecurity with dietary intakes and nutritional biomarkers among US children, National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2011–2016

    Open Access•Shinyoung Jun, R Remo et al.•ARTICLE•Cuadernos del tercer mundo•2021•Citada por: 5•Referencias: 46

Food insecurity was associated with compromised intake of some micronutrients, especially among adolescent girls. These results highlight a need for targeted interventions to improve children's overall diet quality, including the reduction of specific nutrient inadequacies, especially among food-insecure children. This study was registered at clinicaltrials.gov as NCT03400436.

  • Physical Activity, Step Counts, and Grip Strength in the Chinese Children and Families Cohort Study

Open Access•David Berrigan, Ailing Liu et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2020

Device and question-based measurement of PA and strength were readily accepted in these Chinese urban and rural populations. The PAQ on physical activity in the past year produced some plausible population averages, but individual responses suggested recall challenges. If data about specific activities are required, future studies should explore use of standardized survey questions concerning such fewer specific activities or instruments examinin…

  • Older adults with obesity have higher risks of some micronutrient inadequacies and lower overall dietary quality compared to peers with a healthy weight, National Health and Nutrition Examination Surv…

Open Access•Shinyoung Jun, Alexandra E Cowan et al.•ARTICLE•Public Health Nutrition•2020

Objective: To evaluate total usual intakes and biomarkers of micronutrients, overall dietary quality and related health characteristics of US older adults who were overweight or obese compared with a healthy weight. Design: Cross-sectional study. Setting: Two 24-h dietary recalls, nutritional biomarkers and objective and subjective health characteristic data were analysed from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2011–2014. We use…

  • Personal ultraviolet Radiation exposure in a cohort of Chinese mother and child pairs

Open Access•Michael G Kimlin, Liwen Fang et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2019

Although based on small numbers, our findings show the importance of geographic location, age, work/school responsibilities, and sex of the adolescents in determining personal UVR exposure in China. These results suggest that latitude of residence may not be a good proxy for personal UVR exposure in all circumstances

  • Strength of the relationships between three self-reported dietary intake instruments and serum carotenoids

    Open Access•Stephanie M George, Frances E Thompson et al.•ARTICLE•Public Health Nutrition•2012

Objective To assess the strength of the relationships between serum carotenoids and three self-reported dietary intake instruments often used to characterize carotenoid intake in studies of diet and disease. Design Participants completed a Diet History Questionnaire (DHQ), two 24 h dietary recalls (24HR), a fruit and vegetable screener and a fasting blood draw. We derived dietary intake estimates of α-carotene, β-carotene, cryptoxanthin, lutein, …
