Neighborhood Racialized Economic Polarization, Home Visiting Coverage, and Adverse Birth Outcomes in a Medicaid-eligible Population
Breaking Barriers to Rapid Whole Genome Sequencing in Pediatrics
The integration of precision medicine in the care of hospitalized children is ever evolving. However, access to new genomic diagnostics such as rapid whole genome sequencing (rWGS) is hindered by barriers in implementation. Michigan's Project Baby Deer (PBD) is a multi-center collaborative effort that sought to break down barriers to access by offering rWGS to critically ill neonatal and pediatric inpatients in Michigan. The clinical champion tea…
An Evaluation Framework of a Transdisciplinary Collaborative Center for Health Equity Research
Over the last few decades, there has been an increase in the number of large federally funded transdisciplinary programs and initiatives. Scholars have identified a need to develop frameworks, methodologies, and tools to evaluate the effectiveness of these large collaborative initiatives, providing precise ways to understand and assess the operations, community and academic partner collaboration, scientific and community research dissemination, a…

A Cross-Section Study of Relationship Characteristics and Smoking Cessation During Pregnancy in a Sample of Romanian Pregnant Women
Home- and Car-Based Rules in Foster Care Settings to Reduce Exposure to Secondhand Smoke
Background : To evaluate changes in smoke free rules in the foster care system after the implementation of the Romanian national clean air law. Methods : A repeated cross-sectional, self-administered questionnaire among foster care employees ( n = 599) was conducted in 58 foster care homes during 2014 ( n = 295) and 51 homes during 2016 ( n = 304). We estimated the absolute difference in the proportion of employees who stated that smoke free rule…

Electronic Medical Record Use and Maternal and Child Care and Health
Moving Toward Evidence-Based Federal Healthy Start Program Evaluations
We used administrative and screening data from 2009 to 2010 to determine if Healthy Start (HS), an enhanced prenatal services program, is reaching the most vulnerable African American women in Kent County, Michigan. Women in HS are at higher risk of key predictors of birth outcomes compared with other women. To advance toward evidence-based HS program evaluations in the absence of randomized controlled trials, future studies using comparison grou…
Maternal Perceptions of Help From Home Visits by Nurse–Community Health Worker Teams
We used data from a home visiting trial to examine low-income women's perceptions of services received from nurses (the community care [CC] group) and from a nurse–community health worker (CHW) team. More mothers in the nurse–CHW group than in the CC group reported receiving help in all of the categories assessed. For both groups, assistance with health education ranked highest among the types of assistance received. A higher percentage of women …
What Factors Affect the Productivity and Efficiency of Physician Practices
BACKGROUND: Increasing the productivity and efficiency of physician practices could help relieve the rapid growth of US healthcare costs and the expected physician shortage. Radiology practices are an attractive specific focus for research on practices' productivity and efficiency because they are home to many purportedly productivity-enhancing operational technologies. This affords an opportunity to study the effect of production technology on p…
