A Short-Form Measure of Loneliness
The revised UCLA Loneliness Scale (ULS-20) and a four-item short form (ULS-4) are widely used in personality research (Russell, Peplau, & Cutrona, 1980). In an exploratory factor analysis of the ULS-20, we identified eight items that loaded substantially on the first factor. Honesty Requiring a Self-Initiated Response
33 patrons of the University of California, Riverside student union were given $1.05 in change for a dollar bill (three quarters, two dimes, and two nickels). Honesty was assessed by the criterion of self-initiating the return of the extra nickel, and behavior was examined as a function of sex, age, and manner of dress. Results indicate that the over-all honesty of patrons was low (45%), but no significant findings for the relationship between th…
Authoritarian Traits as Predictors of Preference for Candidates in 1980 United States Presidential Election
Responses of 42 males and 42 females to a questionnaire containing items from the dogmatism and F scales showed the right-wing candidate supporters were higher on authoritarianism than adherents of either moderate Republicans or President Carter; left-wing liberal candidate supporters were lowest. Data support the findings of previous research, attest to the reliability and validity of both the D scale and F scale, are consistent with the content…
