The emancipatory potential of the Global Studies Programme
Aris Sitas co-founded the Global Studies Programme in 2001 as a cooperation between three world regions (Africa, Asia and Europe) with a focus in the Global South. The programme has become extremely successful and exists up to this day. The COVID-19 pandemic has led to a weakening of the formal economy and a crisis of the informal economy in Laos. The population has responded with a partial return to subsistence farming, which almost the entire rural population had been engaged in anyway.
