Discoidals and Problematical Stones from Mississippian Sites in Minnesota
There is no conclusive evidence that discoidals, chunkey stones or similar problematical stones were used exclusively or intermittently for games, ceremonials, food preparation or other village purposes, but the weight of evidence from eyewitness accounts suggests the dominance of game use. Comments on the Significance of Stone Circle Excavations in Alberta
A number of recently excavated stone circle sites “tipi rings” in Alberta are used to document the continuing necessity for detailed investigations into this site type. The excavations revealed quantities of cultural material, significant information and considerable time depth which are contrary to many previous assumptions.
A Bird Motif On A Mississippian Pot From The Bryan Site
Sections of a large Mississippian pot with unusual bird designs were recovered at the Bryan site in Minnesota. The bird motifs (thunderbird or hawk) are outlined on the side of the pot by trailed lines and punctates. The designs represent a ceramic style not previously known at the Bryan site or at other sites in Minnesota. The author solicits suggestions about this find and information about ceramics with similar decoration
