  • Dating Persistent Short-Term Human Activity in a Complex Depositional Environment

    Open Access•Lauren Weeks, Charlotte M Cable et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2019•Citada por: 2•Referencias: 31

The archaeological site of Saruq al-Hadid, Dubai, United Arab Emirates, presents a long sequence of persistent temporary human occupation on the northern edge of the Rub’ al-Khali desert. The site is located in active dune fields, and evidence for human activity is stratified within a deep sequence of natural dune deposits that reflect complex taphonomic processes of deposition, erosion and reworking. This study presents the results of a program …

    François Briois, Beatrix Midant-Reynes et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Field Archaeology•2012•Citada por: 10•Referencias: 9

KS043 is a stratified site associated with a complex of artesian springs. The archaeological remains, as well as a series of radiocarbon determinations, date the site to between 4800 and 4200 b.c. Our study suggests a connection between Saharan pastoralists, forced to move into oasis areas by increasing aridification, and the first Predynastic cultures of the Nile Valley. The site is the only well dated stratified settlement attributed to the Lat…

  • Environmental change and settlement shifts in Upper Egypt during the Predynastic

    Open Access•Claire Newton, Beatrix Midant-Reynes•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2007•Referencias: 3

What was the environmental setting for changes in the settlement pattern of Adaïma, a mid-fourth to early-third millennium site in the Egyptian Nile valley? Analysis of charcoal collected from the archaeological soil was performed on contexts from several periods. The settlement was set up in an environment where the vegetation was probably more extended, with more wooded desert margins. Over 600 years, changes in the charcoal spectrum reflect a …
