  • Performing Environments

    Open Access•Susan Bennett, Mary Polito•BOOK•Performing Environments•2014

Imagining a production in the churchyard of All Saints in Croxton, East Anglia, the essay draws on recent advances in cognitive science to illustrate how embodied experience of The Play of the Sacrament might have affected an audience’s relationship with the site of performance. The author argues that the first half of the play distracts from the spiritual and communal associations of both site and Eucharist, implicating the spectators in the Hos…

  • Thinking Site

    Open Access•Susan Bennett, Mary Polito•CHAPTER•Performing Environments•2014

    Open Access•Mary Polito, Jean-Sebastien Windle•ARTICLE•Early Theatre•2009

The University of Calgary Library Special Collections holds an anonymous, untitled seventeenth-century dramatic manuscript, purchased in 1972 from antiquarian bookseller Edgar Osborne. In 2005 a U of C interdisciplinary research team began to investigate its provenance and learned that an earlier version of the same play, also in manuscript, untitled and anonymous is extant at Arbury Hall Warwickshire (though it had been given the title The Humor…

    Mary Polito•ARTICLE•Renaissance and Reformation•2004

  • The Cambridge King Lear CD-ROM (review)

    Mary Polito•ARTICLE•Theatre Journal•2002

Electronic publication proliferates, and the Shakespeare industry has entered this domain with enthusiasm if not abandon. The Shakespeareans who contributed to the session "Shakespeare.com" at the Shakespeare World Congress in Valencia, Spain in the spring of 2001, however, were impressive in this regard. One of the chairs of that session, Christie Carson, is the co-editor with Jacky Bratton of the CD-ROM reviewed here. The disk invites scholars …
