Plio-Pleistocene Small Mammal-Based Biochronology of Eastern Anatolia and Transcaucasus
The known Plio-Pleistocene mammalian record, mainly represented by small mammals, and its biotic and geological context in the vast region of Eastern Turkey and Transcaucasus provides a sound base for regional biochronology. Recently obtained faunal associations and the main evolutionary lineages found in the region support direct correlations to the European (ELMA/MN/MQ) and the Eastern European (faunal complexes/MQR-MNR) biochronological system…
Environmental and geodynamic settings of the earliest hominin migration to the Arabian-Caucasus region
Early Palaeolithic evidence from the Euphrates River basin, Eastern Turkey
The Early Pleistocene site of Kermek in western Ciscaucasia (southern Russia)
Stratigraphic and tectonic settings of Early Paleolithic of North-West Armenia
Paleoenvironment of the Fore-Baikal region in the Karginian interstadial
Vegetation development and human occupation in the Damascus region of southwestern Syria from the Late Pleistocene to Holocene
Geomorphology, site distribution, and Paleolithic settlement dynamics of the Ma'aloula region, Damascus Province, Syria
This survey of the geology, geomorphology, and Paleolithic archaeology of a 300 km2 area in Damascus Province, Syria, focused around the villages of Ma'aloula and Jaba'deen. The study resulted in the definition of seven geomorphological zones that trend northeast–southwest, parallel to the prevailing geological features of the region. The zones span a broad range of elevations, from a dry lake bed in the Jeiroud Basin (ca. 800 m) to the peaks of …
The Sevsk woolly mammoth (Mammuthus primigenius) site in Russia
Environments of the Russian Plain during the Middle Valdai Briansk Interstade (33,000–24,000 yr B.P.) Indicated by Fossil Mammals and Plants
Abundant mammal (45 localities) and plant (52 sections) fossil data collected from the Russian Plain deposits of the Middle Valdai Briansk Interstade indicate a period of noticeable warming. These materials were jointly analyzed. The data were organized in the database software PARADOX and then moved to the GIS program ARC/INFO. Mathematical methods as well as traditional research methods were used for the analysis. The reconstructed biogeographi…
Distribution of late Valday mammals and plants on the Northern Russian plain
Results of the creation of two databases on the distribution of Late Valday mammals and plants, respectively, over the territory of the Russian Plain are presented. Particular emphasis is placed on documenting the responses of indicator species of plants and mammals to global climate change during the second half of the Valday glaciation. Attention also is devoted to exploring the correlations between the ranges of various plants and animals duri…
