A multi-proxy study of changing environmental conditions in a Younger Dryas sequence in southwestern Manitoba, Canada: Response to comments by Breslawski et al., Quaternary Research Volume 94, 210–211 - Volume 94

  • A multi-proxy study of changing environmental conditions in a Younger Dryas sequence in southwestern Manitoba, Canada, and evidence for an extraterrestrial event

    Open Access•James T Teller, James Teller et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2020

Multi-proxy analyses of a sequence spanning the Younger Dryas (YD) in the Glacial Lake Hind basin of Manitoba provides insight into regional paleohydrology and paleovegetation of meltwater rivers and lakes spanning >4000 yr; the sequence is controlled by 25 new accelerator mass spectrometry ages. This lake, dammed by the Laurentide Ice Sheet, overflowed into Lake Agassiz. The pre-YD interval records rapid sedimentation from meltwaters that headed…

  • Reconnaissance of the Hannibalic Route in the Upper Po Valley, Italy

    Open Access•William C Mahaney, Peeter Somelar et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2019•Citada por: 2•Referencias: 28

Controversy over the alpine route taken by the Hannibalic Army from the Rhône Basin into Italia in 218 bc (2168 cal bp ) has raged amongst classicists for over two millennia. Because Hannibal crossed the Alps, the significance for identifying the route taken by the Punic Army lies more in its potential for identifying sites of historical archaeological significance than a resolution of one of history's most enduring questions. While compelling st…

  • Biostratigraphic Evidence Relating to the Age-Old Question of Hannibal's Invasion of Italy, II

    Open Access•William C Mahaney, Christopher C R Allen et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2017•Citada por: 4•Referencias: 26

As discussed in Part I, a large accumulation of mammalian faeces at the mire site in the upper Guil Valley near Mt. Viso, dated to 2168 cal 14C yr., provides the first evidence of the passage of substantial but indeterminate numbers of mammals within the time frame of the Punic invasion of Italia. Specialized organic biomarkers bound up in a highly convoluted and bioturbated bed constitute an unusual anomaly in a histosol comprised of fibric and …

Controversy over the alpine route that Hannibal of Carthage followed from the Rhône Basin into Italia has raged amongst classicists and ancient historians for over two millennia. The motivation for identifying the route taken by the Punic Army through the Alps lies in its potential for identifying sites of historical archaeological significance and for the resolution of one of history's most enduring quandaries. Here, we present stratigraphic, ge…

  • The History of the Ethnography Collections of W. H. Lever

Allen West•ARTICLE•Journal of the History of…•1992•Citada por: 2

This paper traces the history of the little-known ethnography collections of Lever which have effectively been lost to view since his death. The few hundred pieces remaining in Port Sunlight are only a part of a collection substantialboth m quantity and quality. Lever's ethnography collection was built up alongside his developing overseas business interests and travels around the world. He intended it to form a central part of a museum and art ga…
