What’s in Our Name? Exploring Meaning and Narrative Identity in Parents’ Naming of Firstborn
This qualitative study explores the name of the firstborn as a linguistic self-representation that expresses the parent’s evolving narrative identity. Twelve first-time parents of one-year-olds underwent personal and joint-couple interviews to explore the act of bestowing a name and the experience of bearing one. The experience of closeness and distance in the therapeutic relationship of patients with different attachment classifications
It appears that patient discourse is a stable (trait-like) component of attachment, while the therapeutic-distance is a process (state-like) component that may change along therapy. Voices of Adult Offspring of Righteous Among the Nations
This study aims to give voice to the offspring of ‘Righteous Among the Nations’ who were children during World War II. Unlike the children of survivors and the children of perpetrators, this unique group has not yet been studied. We assume that although the children had no say in their parents’ decision to rescue Jews, these rescue acts affected their experiences. Women's narratives of crisis and change
This study explores ways women, who endured prolonged fertility difficulties, after which they eventually conceived, integrate the two phases within their life stories. A total of 12 women were interviewed during their first pregnancy after having experienced 2-6 years of infertility. Three types of narratives were identified: (1) the infertility overshadows the pregnancy and approaching motherhood, (2) the pregnancy leads to a dissociation conce…
Echoes of the Trauma
Echoes of trauma are traced in the relational narratives that the sons and daughters of Holocaust survivors tell about their experiences growing up in survivor families. An innovative combination of the Core Conflictual Relationship Theme (CCRT) method with narrative-qualitative analysis revealed common themes and emotional patterns that are played out in the survivors' children's meaningful relationships, especially in those with their parents. …

Intergenerational consequences of extensive trauma experienced by parents for the loneliness experienced by their children were explored in 52 adults (26 men and 26 women) who grew up in Holocaust survivor families. The nature and expression of anger and guilt in sons and daughters of Holocaust survivors were studied by a quantitative and qualitative analysis of relationship narratives. Findings are discussed in relation to the reciprocal overprotectiveness between the surviving parents and their children in the context of intergenerational communication of trauma
