Exploring Paleogeographic Conditions at Two P aleolithic Sites in N avarino, Southwest G reece, Dated by Optically Stimulated Luminescence
In this paper, we employed optically stimulated luminescence ( OSL ) dating of sediments from two archaeological sites located in N avarino, M essenia, southwestern G reece, to deduce a chronology for the archaeological sites. In the Balkans archaeologists until recently have neglected Pleistocene and early Holocene remains in open-air contexts in favor of excavations in caves. As a consequence, they have reconstructed patterns of settlement and land use that in many areas are misleading. The authors of this paper suggest that a systematic examination of Palaeolithic and Mesolithic open-air sites through intensive surface survey has the potential to transform entirely …

Roman Gardens in Tunisia
Tunisia furnishes a most promising field for the study of Roman gardens. A survey of the major sites in 1988 and 1990 showed that the court in some houses was paved with mosaics, but in the great majority of houses there was soil in the courts. Some gardens had been replanted, but in no case had the soil been examined for evidence of ancient plantings.
