    Kay Prag•ARTICLE•Palestine Exploration Quarterly•2000•Citada por: 3•Referencias: 1

In 1998 the Palestine Exploration Fund considered undertaking some survey work at Bethlehem in the gardens east of the Church of the Nativity, and a preliminary site assessment on which this report is based was undertaken in February 1999. The information derived from this work provides a synthesis of our current evidence for the ancient site

  • Three Fortresses on the Wadi Kafrain, Jordan

    Kay Prag, Hugh Barnes•ARTICLE•Levant•1996

The survey of a complex of well-preserved forts at the mouth of the Wadi Kafrain provides evidence for past systems of strategic organization in the area north-east of the Dead Sea. One fort, which had been described by A. Mallon in the 1930s, is of Iron Age date and is situated on the plateau above the south side of the wadi. A pair of forts, of Roman and Byzantine date, controlled the mouth of the Wadi Kafrain. The one above the south bank was …

  • Preliminary Report on the Excavations at Tell Iktanu and Tell al-Hammam, Jordan, 1990

    Kay Prag•ARTICLE•Levant•1991

During the 1990 season the excavation of two areas begun in 1989 at Tell Iktanu (Area A13 and Area C3), and two new EB.MB areas (A14 and A15) was completed. A complete survey of the western half of the lower tell at Tell al-Hammam was undertaken, and parts of the Early Bronze Age settlement were excavated. Observations by A. Mallon are combined with present survey work including aerial photographs to indicate that the lower Early Bronze Age town …

Comparaison de l'architecture decorative de Jerusalem avec les chapiteaux et balustrades d'Ammon, de Moab et de Juda. Mise en evidence d'une architecture traditionnelle incluant des elements assyriens. Description des balustrades de pierre. Influence des ivoires decoratifs de Mesopotamie

  • Byblos and Egypt in the Fourth Millennium b.c.

    Kay Prag•ARTICLE•Levant•1986

The Levant and Egypt are often considered as separate areas of academic specialization, a tendency which imposes artificial borders on knowledge and approach. It is as well to remember that they are geographically linked, the same Mediterranean Sea laps the shores of both, the land masses are continuous with only an arid region and the modern tags of Africa and Asia to separate them. The actual distance from the Eastern Delta to south Palestine i…

  • The Intermediate Early Bronze-Middle Bronze Age Sequences at Jericho and Tell Iktanu Reviewed

Kay Prag•ARTICLE•Bulletin of the American Schools…•1986

Using the recent full publication of the Kenyon excavations at Jericho and evidence from two occupation phases at Tell Iktanu, a relative sequence is proposed. It seems likely that the EB III town at Jericho was destroyed near the end of EB III and that the establishment of the Iktanu settlement is almost contemporary with this event. Kenyon's "squatter phase" on the Jericho tell may coincide with the use of the more distant parts of the cemetery…

  • Ancient and Modern Pastoral Migration in the Levant

    Kay Prag•ARTICLE•Levant•1985

In 1971 I proposed a considerable modification of this view (Prag 1971, 1974), pointing to the continuity in pottery traditions between the EBA and the EB.MB periods (previously recognized by others), and fresh evidence for a rather more sedentary agricultural economy. I suggested that Palestine, like Egypt and Mesopotamia between the twenty-fourth and twentyfirst centuries B.C., was subject to nomadic infiltration. I thought that relatively smal…

  • The 1959 Deep Sounding at Harran in Turkey

    Kay Prag•ARTICLE•Levant•1970

In 1947 and succeeding years, the co-operation of l'urkish and English archaeologists resulted in the excavation or survey of a number of sites in south-east Turkey. D6nmez and Brice, in that year, journeyed from Cilicia to Lake Van, noting the occurrence of various types of early pottery in the intervening provinces.2 In July 1950, Lloyd and Brice surveyed the medieval ruins of Harran, and immediately published an excellent resume of the history…
