  • The relative importance of potential outcomes of occupational guidance

Open Access•V J SHACKLETON, Viv Shackleton et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Occupational Psychology•1982

The ‘intangible’ outcomes of occupational guidance were first examined in terms of the extent to which they were an adequate description of the occupational guidance process. Two methods were employed and compared; (1) rankings; (2) the Churchman & Ackoff (1954) technique to yield an approximate measure of value. …

  • Effect of Incentives and Personal Contact on Response Rate to a Mailed Questionnaire

    Open Access•V J SHACKLETON, Viv Shackleton et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1982

This paper reports a study comparing the efficacy of financial incentive and personal contact in facilitating response to a mailed questionnaire. For 89 partially sighted school leavers the combination of factors significantly increased the speed of return of the questionnaires but did not affect the eventual response rate. The results highlight the limitations of single-variable studies of response-rate facilitators

  • The Effects of Music and Task Difficulty on Performance at a Visual Vigilance Task

Open Access•D R Davies, LESLEY LANG et al.•ARTICLE•British Journal of Psychology•1973•Citada por: 1

Forty subjects performed a visual vigilance task in music or noise and when the task was difficult or easy. Response measures taken were: correct detections, commission errors, detection latencies and d' values. For the difficult version of the task a significant increase in detection latencies was found which music prevented. Broadly similar findings were obtained for correct detections. The results are compared with other studies of detection l…
