  • Inequality Indices as Tests of Fairness

    Open Access•Ravi Kanbur, Andy Snell•ARTICLE•The Economic Journal•2019•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 24

Inequality indices are traditionally interpreted as measures of deviations from equality. This article interprets them instead as statistical tests for a null of fairness within well-defined income generating processes. We find that the likelihood ratio (LR) test for fairness versus unfairness within two such processes are proportional to Theil’s first and second inequality indices respectively. The LR values may be used either as a test statisti…

  • A Theoretical Analysis of Institutional Investors’ Trading Costs in Auction and Dealer Markets

    Open Access•Andy Snell, Ian Tonks•ARTICLE•The Economic Journal•2003•Referencias: 18

This paper compares trading costs for institutional investors subject to liquidity shocks, in auction and dealer markets. The batch auction restricts the institutions’ ability to exploit informational advantages because of competition between institutions when they simultaneously submit orders. • Determinants of Price Quote Revisions on the London Stock Exchange

Andy Snell, Ian Tonks•ARTICLE•The Economic Journal•1995

This paper investigates the determinants of price quote revisions on the London Stock Exchange for a sample of highly liquid stocks over a two-week settlement period in September 1990. In our theoretical model the level of optimal price quotes set by market makers are a function of the expected fundamental price, the expected number of liquidity trades and the lagged level of inventories. The model is used to test for the existence of adverse sel…
