Heterogeneous predictive association of CO 2 with global warming
Global warming is a non‐uniform process across space and time. This opens the door to a heterogeneous relationship between and temperature that needs to be explored going beyond the standard analysis based on mean temperature. We revisit this topic through the lens of a new class of factor models for high‐dimensional panel data, called quantile factor models. LM Tests for Joint Breaks in the Dynamics and Level of a Long-Memory Time Series
We consider a single-step Lagrange multiplier (LM) test for joint breaks (at known or unknown dates) in the long memory parameter, the short-run dynamics, and the level of a fractionally integrated time-series process. The regression version of this test is easily implementable and allows to identify the specific sources of the break when the null hypothesis of parameter stability is rejected. France and Spain have similar labour market institutions and their unemployment rates were both around 8% just before the Great Recession but subsequently that rate has increased to 10% in France and to 23% in Spain. This paper examines the effects of transitory skill mismatch in a matching model with heterogeneous jobs and workers. In our model, some high-educated workers may accept unskilled jobs for which they are over-qualified but are allowed to engage in on-the-job search in pursuit of a better job. We review some lessons from the Spanish experience of using temporary employment contracts for regular jobs since 1984. The focus is on the role of fixed--term contracts with low severance pay, which have substituted for reform of employment protection legislation for permanent contracts. The high level of unemployment is probably the worst feature of the recent evolution of the Spanish economy. In 1970 the overall unemployment rate stood at 1 per cent of the civilian labour force; in 1984 it is estimated to have gone over the 20 per cent level.
