  • Transmission pathways for the stem rust pathogen into Central and East Asia and the role of the alternate host, barberry

    Open Access•Catherine P Bradshaw, Catherine D Bradshaw et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2024

After many decades of effective control of stem rust caused by the Puccinia graminis f.sp. tritici, (hereafter Pgt) the reported emergence of race TTKSK/ Ug99 of Pgt in Uganda reignited concerns about epidemics worldwide because ∼90% of world wheat cultivars had no resistance to the new race. Since it was initially detected in Uganda in 1998, Ug99 variants have now been identified in thirteen countries in Africa and the Middle East. Stem rust has…

  • Convection in future winter storms over Northern Europe

Open Access•Ségolène Berthou, Malcolm Roberts et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2022

Precipitation within extratropical cyclones is very likely to increase towards the end of the century in a business-as-usual scenario. We investigate hourly precipitation changes in end-of-century winter storms with the first km-scale model ensemble covering northwest Europe and the Baltic region. This is an ensemble that explicitly represents convection (convection permitting models (CPMs)). Models agree that future winter storms will bring 10%–…

  • Are Current U.S. Anti-Bullying Programs Net Beneficial to Parents? Inferences from School Switching

    Open Access•Mark D Agee, Thomas D Crocker•ARTICLE•Journal of Benefit-Cost Analysis•2016•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 4

This paper applies a discrete choice version of the household production framework to assess parents’ ex ante willingness to pay to reduce their child’s victimization from bullying at school. Willingness to pay is estimated using a bivariate probit model and a unique panel of 595 families from the NICHD Study of Early Child Care and Youth Development for 2000 to 2003. Empirical results find a statistically significant positive association between…

  • Child Development when Parents Enjoy Childcare

    Mark D Agee, Thomas D Crocker•ARTICLE•Journal of Institutional and…•2011

We develop a dynamic model of intrahousehold allocation to examine how parental time and resource investment trade-offs combine intertemporally to affect child human-capital development. The model allows parents' endogenous child investments, labor supply, and leisure choices to be determined simultaneously along an optimal time path. Joint production is incorporated, defined as the degree to which parental time devoted to childcare simultaneousl…

  • Valuing mother and child health

    Open Access•Stefanos A Nastis, Thomas D Crocker•ARTICLE•Economics & Human Biology•2011

  • Does parents’ valuation of children’s health mimic their valuation of own health

    Open Access•Mark D Agee, Thomas D Crocker•ARTICLE•Journal of Population Economics•2007•Referencias: 5

  • On the joint determination of biological and economic systems

    Open Access•Chad Settle, Thomas D Crocker et al.•ARTICLE•Ecological Economics•2002

  • Parents’ Discount Rate and the Intergenerational Transmission of Cognitive Skills

    Open Access•Mark D Agee, Thomas D Crocker•ARTICLE•Economica•2002

We use estimates of parents’ discount rate, inferred from their decisions to treat their children’s body burdens of lead, to test empirically a model of transmission of cognitive skills from parents to children. The development of a child’s cognitive skills depends in part upon the specific environment in which the skills are nurtured. The parental discount rate serves as a theoretically well defined index for a broad array of nurturing investmen…

  • Household environmental protection and the intergenerational transmission of human capital

    Open Access•Mark D Agee, Thomas D Crocker•ARTICLE•Journal of Economic Psychology•2000•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 19

  • Transferable risks and the technology of environmental conflict

    Thomas D Crocker, Jason F Shogren•ARTICLE•Society & Natural Resources•1994•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 3

Environmental and multimedia interdependencies allow one agent to protect himself by simply transferring risk across space and time to another agent. Transferable risks cause too many resources to be devoted to shifting risk and too few resources devoted to reducing it. Transferable risks also imply that the provision of information about pollution damage prevention, disparities among polluters in their abilities to influence environmental progra…

  • Dynamic inconsistency in valuing environmental goods

    Open Access•Thomas D Crocker, Jason F Shogren•ARTICLE•Ecological Economics•1993

  • Adaptation and the option value of uncertain environmental resources

    Open Access•Jason F Shogren, Thomas D Crocker•ARTICLE•Ecological Economics•1990

  • The importance of specification uncertainty and intolerance to measurement error in a study of the impact of dentine lead on childrens’ IQs

Scott E Atkinson, Thomas D Crocker et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•1987

Needleman et al. concluded that, on average, an increase in the dentine lead of children from 24 ppm was associated with a 4‐point IQ decrement. Recently, a spate of papers has conjectured that the reports of Needleman et al. and others could be spurious because of measurement error and omitted variable bias. In this Bayesian analysis of the reconstituted Needleman et al. data set, we replace such conjectures by empirical tests. Even though we st…

  • Hours of Work, Labor Productivity, and Environmental Conditions

    Thomas D Crocker, R L Horst•ARTICLE•The Review of Economics and…•1981

Livelihood measures of foregone and compensating earnings are frequently used as measures of economic losses due to realized or potential damages to the health of labor in-puts. Both measures as they have been used are incomplete, though for quite different reasons. The narrowness of the foregone earnings mea-sure is widely acknowledged. As set forth in Smith (1974), Thaler and Rosen (1976), and Viscusi (1979), the compensating earnings measure, …
