  • A comprehensive mechanism of biological and health effects of anthropogenic extremely low frequency and wireless communication electromagnetic fields

Open Access•Dimitris J Panagopoulos, Igor Yakymenko et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2025

Exposure to anthropogenic electromagnetic fields (EMFs), especially those of wireless communications (WC) has increased tremendously. This is an unprecedented phenomenon throughout biological evolution because, all anthropogenic EMFs, being fully polarized, coherent, and, especially WC EMFs, highly variable, differ substantially from the natural EMFs. WC EMFs consist of Microwave (MW) carrier waves, modulated, by Extremely Low Frequency (ELF) sig…

  • Validity and Reliability of the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) in Greek Secondary School Students

Open Access•Vasiliki Efthymiou, George P Chrousos et al.•ARTICLE•Children•2025

Background/Objectives : Resilience-a complex phenomenon embracing a number of factors on various levels-seems to be a most important skill to survive this vulnerable phase. One major factor is the perceived social support during adolescence. Recognizing gaps in perceived social support may lead to prevention of serious social and medical problems, including juvenile delinquency and stress-related diseases. Screening questionnaires to identify the…

    Open Access•Ntina Kourmousi, Kalliopi Kounenou et al.•ARTICLE•Social Sciences•2025•Referencias: 5

Stress significantly impacts adolescents’ health. Therefore, its measurement is of critical importance. This study aims to assess the psychometric properties of a Greek adolescent version of PSS-10 among middle adolescents. This study’s questionnaire, which was completed by 169 adolescents aged 15–18, included a Greek linguistic, cultural, and age-appropriate version of the PSS-10 and the validated Greek ASQ version. Confirmatory factor and explo…

Open Access•Styliani Geronikolou, Vasilis Vasdekis et al.•ARTICLE•Children•2023

This pilot repeated measures study aims to evaluate the dynamics of the autonomic nervous system (ANS), the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, and/or their interplay with low-level inflammation in healthy schoolchildren during consecutive extrinsic stimuli. Twenty healthy schoolchildren and adolescents aged 11-14 years (12.5 ± 1.5) were consecutively exposed to an oral task (#2) and an arithmetic task (#3) (Trier Social Stress Test for Ch…

  • Reliability and Validity of the Educational Stress Scale for Adolescents (Essa) in a Sample of Greek Students

Open Access•Evangelia Moustaka, Flora Bacopoulou et al.•ARTICLE•Children•2023

Open Access•Evangelia Moustaka, Flora Bacopoulou et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2023

Greek adolescent students experience high levels of educational stress during the school period. In this cross-sectional study, we examined various factors associated with educational stress in Greece. The study was conducted using a self-report questionnaire survey in Athens, Greece, between November 2021 and April 2022. We studied a sample of 399 students (61.9% females; 38.1% males, with a mean age of 16.3 years). We found that several factors…

  • Soft Tissue Ewing Sarcoma Cell Drug Resistance Revisited

Open Access•Seyedehsadaf Asfa, Halil Ibrahim Toy et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2023

Ewing sarcoma is a rare type of cancer that develops in the bones and soft tissues. Drug therapy represents an extensively used modality for the treatment of sarcomas. However, cancer cells tend to develop resistance to antineoplastic agents, thereby posing a major barrier in treatment effectiveness. Thus, there is a need to uncover the molecular mechanisms underlying chemoresistance in sarcomas and, hence, to enhance the anticancer treatment out…

Open Access•Triada Konstantina Papapanou, Christina Darviri et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2023

Social appearance anxiety is a type of social anxiety that is associated with body image perception and exacerbated by the use of social media, leading to feelings of loneliness. The purpose of this cross-sectional study was to examine the relations between social appearance anxiety, use of social media, and feelings of loneliness in Greek adolescents and young adults. The sample of the research consisted of 632 participants, 439 women (69.5%) an…

  • Stress and Well-Being of Greek Primary School Educators

    Open Access•Dimitrios G Zagkas, George P Chrousos et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2023

The teaching profession has always been challenging, while for various reasons the magnitude of observed stress in teachers has been continually growing over time. This study was conducted to demonstrate the relevance of stress in this professional group and to generate evidence for the benefit of primary school teachers and, indirectly, their pupils. To this end, we examined a large number of school teachers in a descriptive cross-sectional stud…

  • Circulating FGF21 vs. Stress Markers in Girls during Childhood and Adolescence, and in Their Caregivers

Open Access•Eirini Christaki, Eirini V Christaki et al.•ARTICLE•Children•2022

Fibroblast growth factor-21 (FGF21) acts on several brain regions, including the hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus, which is involved in the regulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis. The purpose of this study was to investigate the interrelations between FGF21 and stress indices in girls, as well as in their caregivers. 78 girls, aged between 5 and 15 years, were studied; 50 of them were overweight and obese (OB) and 28 in t…

These can be prevented through intervention programs in schools. The aim of this study was to examine the effect of the simplified Pythagorean Self-Awareness Intervention on heart rate variability (HRV) parameters, perceived stress and behaviors of preschool children. The sample of the study co…

  • Associations between Maternal and Offspring Hair Cortisol Concentrations and Child Behavioral Symptoms in Mother-Child Pairs with Perinatal Mental Disorders

Open Access•Anna Agapaki, Fenia Papagianni et al.•ARTICLE•Children•2022

Maternal perinatal mental disorders (PMD) are associated with developmental and behavioral problems in children, probably mediated by the programming of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis. Increased cortisol concentrations during the antenatal and perinatal periods have been related to long-term effects on children's behavior and stress response. We aimed to investigate the association of hair cortisol concentrations (HCC) between moth…

  • Could Covid-19′s Aftermath on Children’s Health Be Felt into the 22nd Century

Open Access•Alexios‐Fotios A Mentis, George Paltoglou et al.•ARTICLE•Children•2022

The COVID-19 pandemic has massively affected people's health, societies, and the global economy. Our lives are no longer as they were before COVID-19, and, most likely, will never be the same again. We hypothesize that the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on population health and the economy will last for a very long time and will still be felt in the 22nd century. Our hypothesis is based on evidence from the 1918-1919 influenza pandemic, the Dutc…

Open Access•Dimitrios Moutafidis, Maria Gavra et al.•ARTICLE•Children•2021

In contrast to studies of adults with emphysema, application of fixed thresholds to determine low- and high-attenuation areas (air-trapping and parenchymal lung disease) in pediatric quantitative chest CT is problematic. We aimed to assess age effects on: (i) mean lung attenuation (full inspiration); and (ii) low and high attenuation thresholds (LAT and HAT) defined as mean attenuation and 1 SD below and above mean, respectively. Chest CTs from c…
