Africa's international trade paradox, technology transfer, and value chain upgrade
This study examines the paradoxes in trade and global value chain (GVC) in Africa. Firstly, we analyzed international trade statistics of selected countries to highlight paradoxes in resource endowments, exports, and imports. We found contrasts between Africa's development potential and its current reality in trade and value capture. Secondly, we analyzed the content of reports focused on GVC challenges in four countries. We found that the report…

Theorizing dramaturgical resistance leadership from the leadership campaigns of Jeremy Corbyn
What are the practices through which resistance leadership transitions from marginality to power? We present a framework of dramaturgical resistance leadership, paying particular attention to the relational dynamics between leaders, internal factions and external stakeholders. In doing so, we draw on an ‘expanded’ social drama analysis framework informed by the work of social anthropologist Victor Turner, incorporating insights from the resistanc…

Therefore, our study examines residents' perceptions of justice and…
Being satisfied at work does affect burnout among psychiatrists

Longitudinal studies on the subject are lacking, rendering it difficult to establish whether burnout changes with time or whether low job satisfaction may predict high burnout with time in psychiatrists. AIMS: This longitudinal study of burnout and job satisfaction in a cohort of New Zealand psychiatrists was conducted to examine if initial scores…
The Dramatistic Genre in Leadership Studies
Since the late 1980s, leadership theorists and researchers have appreciated the significance of leaders as makers of meaning. While this understanding has stimulated a greater need to link leadership to organizational symbolism and organizational sense-making issues, the focus on these issues has resulted in not insignificant dissatisfaction with conventional approaches to the study of leadership. In response, this article proposes a complementar…
A Burkean Inquiry into Leader–Follower Identification Motives
The primary goal of this paper is to develop a rhetorically based understanding of the dynamics of the identification process between transformational or charismatic leaders and their followers. We bring to bear Burke's theory of identification in an effort to provide a finely nuanced and deeply rooted conceptualization of follower identification that we perceive to be a weakness of the transformational/charismatic leadership discourse. A seconda…
