Actual and Perceived Gender Differences in the Accuracy of Surrogate Decisions About Life-Sustaining Medical Treatment Among Older Spouses
This study examined the influence of surrogate gender on the accuracy of substituted judgments about the use of life-sustaining treatment in a sample of 249 older adults and their self-selected surrogate decision-makers. The current study had two primary goals, to determine whether: 1) self-rated mental and physical health, pain, and experience with health problems were predictors of elderly adults' attitudes toward death; and 2) death attitudes predict end-of-life medical treatment concerns. Psychological Scaling of Linguistic Properties
Adults' abilities to judge selected properties of sentences were examined in three separate studies. In the first two, subjects rated the grammaticalness of sentences varying in grammaticalness according to linguistic theory.
