A dynamic system model of social conflict that combines attitude change model and game theory
A social conflict often occurs during the course of a large‐scale and long‐term project such as infrastructure development projects, in which multiple parties are involved. Not only do possible gains and losses of interested parties likely conflict with each other, but also their attitudes towards the project may change dynamically over time. A mathematical model was developed to analyze this process. One part of the model is the attitude change …
Management of rainfall-related environmental risks in urban area
Rainfall brings urban residents both benefits, such as water resources, but also adverse risks such as flooding. Additionally, it has been recognized that wet weather run-off discharges pollutants and transfers chemicals and pathogen bacteria into the aquatic ecosystem. This causes not only deterioration of water quality but also environmental pollution risk. Both the flood risk and environmental pollution risk are treated here as ‘rainfall-relat…
The Role of Intergovernmental Grants in Underpopulated Regions
HAGIHARA K. and HAGIHARA Y. (1991) The role of intergovernmental grants in underpopulated regions, Reg. Studies 25, 163–172. The depopulation problem in Japan is considered from the viewpoint of local public goods equilibrium. If in moving from one region to another migrants do not account for the effect of their moving on the other residents, then one region may be overpopulated and the other underpopulated. In the framework of a simple model, i…
