This article reports on four studies regarding the development, reliability, and validity of scales to measure two forms of anxiety, ego anxiety and discomfort anxiety. In the first study 140 undergraduates completed fourteen items related to ego anxiety and discomfort anxiety, as well as the Self-esteem Scale, the IPAT Anxiety Scale, and the Hopelessness Scale. Intensity of Parental Punishments and Problem-Solving Attitudes and Behaviors
This study examined the relationship between the intensity of parental punishment procedures and problem-solving attitudes and behaviors of mothers of young children in day care. A sample of 40 mothers (12 Mexican American, 15 white, and 13 black) were administered the Intensity of Parental Punishment Survey, the Problem-solving Inventory, and the Rational Behavior Inventory. This study attempted to establish initial reliability and validity for the Personality Data Form, a self-report questionnaire which purports to assess emotional dysfunctions resulting from irrational beliefs. Reliability and Validity of the Rational Behavior Inventory with Alcoholics
The Rational Behavior Inventory, the IPAT Anxiety Scale, the Beck Hopelessness Scale, and the Buss-Durkee Hostility Inventory were given to 69 chronic alcoholics. The test scores, significantly correlated in the predicted direction, were low to moderate for rational thinking and anxiety ( r = −.53), hopelessness (r = −.30), and hostility ( r = −.65). Relationship between Rational Thinking and Belief in a Just World
The relationship between rational thinking and belief in a just world was examined using scores on the Rational Behavior Inventory and the Just World Scale from 129 undergraduate students. It was hypothesized that rational thinking would be incompatible with absolutistic beliefs that the world is a just place.
