Many significant finds related to urbanism in the Iron Age Levant have been uncovered in the last decades, warranting synthetic treatments combining these finds with theoretical approaches. • YHWH's Diversity

    Angelika Berlejung•BOOK•YHWH's Diversity•2025

By applying a bottom-up approach, Angelika Berlejung examines YHWH's names, epithets, attributes, and functions in biblical and extrabiblical texts, images found in iconographic material, and attempts to correlate these sources. In doing so, her study reverses the usual approach: rather than starting with discussions about the one (and only) origin of YHWH and the search for his primordial theological profile, it aggregates the diversity of the k…

Angelika Berlejung, Gideon Bohak•EDITOR•BOOK•Amulets of Protection and Texts…•2024

Text amulets, - that is, amulets which contain mostly texts - bear witness to the fears and dangers against which they were supposed to help. For ancient man, they were a means of overcoming fear and communicating with supernatural powers. They are valuable sources that can be used for the study of religious history, historical anthropology, and interreligious research.

  • Amulets of Protection and Texts for Fears in Antiquity

Angelika Berlejung, Gideon Bohak•EDITOR•BOOK•Amulets of Protection and Texts…•2024

Amulets are devices for fear management and communication with supernatural forces. They are valuable sources which can be analyzed for the study of the history of religion, historical anthropology, and interreligious research. The contributions in this current volume are based on the rese…

Louis C Jonker, Angelika Berlejung et al.•EDITOR•BOOK•Multilingualism in Ancient Contexts•2021

Debates and discourses on this issue in contexts of diversity (particularly in multicultural societies, but also in immigration situations) are often conducted with present-day communicational and educational needs in mind, or with political and identity agendas. This is nothing new. There are a vast number of witnesses from the ancient West-Asian …
