Valuing latent attributes of a recreation and wildlife habitat management area
Conserving and restoring wildlife habitat is increasingly prioritized as economies focus on sustainable development. This study estimates the nonmarket value of the 7,000-acre Pilot Hill Recreation and Wildlife Habitat Management Area (WHMA) in southeastern Wyoming, which connects the City of Laramie to over 65,000 acres of national forest and state recreation lands. Objectives We report on a nation‐wide study conducted for federal land‐management agencies. Congress mandated a new annual pass for recreational access to U . S . public lands. Methods To assist policymakers in setting a price for the new pass, we administered a national telephone survey with more than 2,000 respondents.
