  • Agencement, second language education, and becoming

Douglas Fleming, Monica Waterhouse et al.•ARTICLE•Critical Inquiry in Language…•2018

This article makes novel use of the Deleuzo-Guattarian concepts of becoming and agencement to frame qualitative research on how youth from second language immigrant families conceptualize citizenship. Even though our work here is primarily conceptual, we refer to aspects of a previously published study to concretely illustrate these concepts for the reader. The study in question found that the participants exhibited a mixture of conceptualization…

This article explores how the concept of becoming woman works through a reexamination of the data pertaining to gender in a study of adults learning English while negoti…

    Douglas Fleming, D M Fleming et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•2010•Referencias: 24

BACKGROUND: Estimation of influenza vaccine effectiveness (V/E) is needed early during influenza outbreaks in order to optimise management of influenza--a need which will be even greater in a pandemic situation. OBJECTIVE: Examine the potential of routinely collected virological surveillance data to generate estimates of V/E in real-time during winter seasons. METHODS: Integrated clinical and virological community influenza surveillance data coll…

  • Use of Dual Protection in Botswana

Open Access•Joan Marie Kraft, Christine Galavotti et al.•ARTICLE•Studies in Family Planning•2009•Referencias: 30

High rates of unintended pregnancy and of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections prompt calls for use of “dual‐protection” strategies, including consistent condom use or dual‐method use. This study examines the use of dual‐protection strategies in a sample of 15–49‐year‐old men and women in Botswana in 2003. Half of sexually active respondents reported consistent condom use in the past year; 2.5 percent reported dual‐method use. Multiple l…

  • The measurement of morbidity in general practice

    Douglas Fleming, D M Fleming•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•1991•Citada por: 2•Referencias: 6

    (1) The need for morbidity data based on general practice arises because: (a) the consultation in general practice is the entry point into the health care system; (b) among the health problems brought to the attention of doctors, most are dealt with completely in general practice; (c) general practice records can provide a comprehensive database for health care.
