Using Imperfect Longitudinal Social Science Data for Sound Protected Area Management and Governance
Information about the intensity, direction and degree of change of park users' perceptions of protected areas (PAs) over time offers insights about their relevance to those visitors and can inform elements of good governance and management. The resident surveys data collected in 1992, 1998, 2005 and 2017 by Regional Parks of the Capital Regional District of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, show how imperfect longitudinal social science informa…
Usage, definition, and measurement of coexistence, tolerance and acceptance in wildlife conservation research in Africa
Public Support for Land Acquisition
While it is recognized that protected areas are important for biodiversity conservation and human wellbeing, governments struggle to establish and/or enlarge protected areas. Land acquisition and the challenges encountered by governing institutions in funding protected area systems expansion is discussed in this paper using the Capital Regional District (CRD) Land Acquisition Fund as a case study. We briefly discuss land acquisition in British Co…

Predictors of Extreme Negative Feelings Toward Coyote in Newfoundland
Human–coyote interactions have occurred since the arrival of the species to the island of Newfoundland in 1985. A mail survey (N = 786) of Newfoundland residents was conducted in 2008. The survey explored negative feelings toward coyotes. A four stage hierarchical multiple regression model examined how the dependent variable, "feelings," was influenced by four independent blocks of variables: "existence beliefs," "impact beliefs," "fear," and "ex…
Water Policy And Governance Networks
Natural resources governance is key to enhancing resilience toward climate change and strengthening socioecological systems in light of future uncertainties. Overlapping jurisdictions and lack of clarity in the lines of authority reduce the efficiency of environmental policies and governance, jeopardizing the conservation and sustainable use of resources. With the forecast of longer droughts, extreme precipitation patterns, faster runoff, and slo…

Human Dimensions of Wildlife in Europe
In comparison to North America, human dimensions of wildlife (HDW) remains a relatively new field in Europe, especially in Italy. This article provides a European overview of HDW using Italy as a case study. Overall, 300 European HDW documents were retrieved, out of which 32 were found for Italy. Multiple languages and unpublished documents limited the findings at a European level. The case study highlights the constraints of conducting a review …
