Social exposure and perceived public stigma toward nonsuicidal self-injury
Emotion regulation profiles across time
Difficulties in emotion regulation are associated with mental health problems during adolescence. This study aimed to identify distinct emotion regulation profiles in adolescents, examine potential differences between profiles, and examine transitions between profiles over time using a person-centered approach with Latent Profile Analysis and Latent Transition Analysis on longitudinal data from two time points in 198 adolescents (M age 14.20 at T…
Exploring the cessation process from adolescence to young adulthood in individuals with lived experience of nonsuicidal self‐injury
INTRODUCTION: Nonsuicidal self-injury (NSSI) is a common and concerning behavior in adolescents. However, most adolescents cease NSSI as they transition into adulthood. Increased knowledge of the cessation process is needed. This study aimed to qualitatively explore the factors contributing to NSSI cessation in individuals with lived experience of NSSI, providing valuable insights for treatment strategies. METHODS: Twenty-six individuals assigned…
Assessing emotion regulation difficulties in adolescents
DERS-16 successfully distinguished clinical from community adolescents. The results illustrate the importance of identifying adolescents with high levels of emotion regulation difficulties in child and adolescent psychiatry due to higher levels of comorbidity and risk behaviors
Effects of a Whole-School Prevention Program Targeting Mental Health and Nonsuicidal Self-Injury in Swedish Adolescents
Rising rates of mental health problems and nonsuicidal self-injury (NSSI) among adolescents highlight the need for preventive interventions and the lack of evidence regarding such measures. To date, few studies have investigated school-based prevention programs targeting NSSI. In this study, a whole-school preventive intervention was carried out at Swedish lower secondary schools and evaluated in a cluster-randomized controlled trial. The whole-s…
An emotion regulation skills training for adolescents and parents
Recommendations for therapeutic practices are discussed
Adolescents’ experiences of a whole-school preventive intervention addressing mental health and nonsuicidal self-injury
Adolescents generally perceived addressing mental health and NSSI in schools as important. Help-seeking initiatives need to be balanced against adolescents' need for autonomy when planning mental health prevention and intervention
Emotional Dysregulation and Trauma Symptoms Mediate the Relationship Between Childhood Abuse and Nonsuicidal Self-Injury in Adolescents
Results indicate that increased levels of emotional dysregulation and trauma symptoms in relation to childhood abuse contribute to the increased risk of NSSI. Further, results point to some aspects of emotional dysregulation and trauma symptoms being more important in this regard. Clinical implications are discussed
Nonsuicidal Self-Injury Disorder in Adolescents
Nonsuicidal self-injury disorder (NSSID) is a condition in need of further study, especially in adolescent and clinical populations where it is particularly prevalent and studies are limited. Twenty-nine clinical self-injuring adolescents were included in the study. The Clinical Assessment of Nonsuicidal Self-Injury Disorder Index (CANDI) was used to assess prevalence of NSSID. The NSSID diagnosis criteria were met by 62.1% of adolescents. The im…
The Role of Learning Support and Chat-Sessions in Guided Internet-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Adolescents With Anxiety
ICBT can be an effective alternative when treating adolescents with anxiety. Learning support could be of importance to enhance short-term treatment effects, and should be investigated further
A Comparison of Adolescents Engaging in Self-Injurious Behaviors With and Without Suicidal Intent
