  • Mortality levels and family fertility goals

    Open Access•Roy E Rickson, J-Y Parlange et al.•ARTICLE•Demography•1985•Referencias: 1

In our last paper (Parlange et al., 1983), we dealt with problem of estimating group fertility rates from expected probability of a child surviving to a given age of a parent. We showed that by incorporating birth order in a comprehensive model, we were able to predict group fertility rates more accurately than a competing model found in demographic literature (Krishnamoorthy, 1979). Our principal criticism of Krishnamoorthy model was that it was…

  • Mortality levels and family fertility goals

    Open Access•J-Y Parlange, J Y Parlange et al.•ARTICLE•Demography•1983•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 7

The relationship between mortality levels and family fertility goals is a fundamental problem in the theory of the demographic transition. This paper deals with the logical problems of estimating family fertility rates from the expected probability of a child surviving to a given age of a parent. The possibility of committing the ecological fallacy makes precise prediction difficult. We critically analyze an existing mathematical model of family …
