Pretreatment stabilization increases completion of trauma-focused evidence-based psychotherapies
Findings suggest that individual stabilization may improve delivery of TF-EBPs in VHA settings by increasing TF-EBP completion without reducing initiation, while pretreatment with group-only stabilization may reduce initiation of TF-EBPs. Results inform how models of care can improve TF-EBP retention and completion among veterans with PTSD. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2024 APA, all rights reserved)
Prevalence and Correlates of Forced Sex Perpetration and Victimization in Botswana and Swaziland
Objectives. We sought to identify correlates of forced sex perpetration among men and victimization among women in Botswana and Swaziland. Methods. We surveyed a 2-stage probability sample of 2074 adults from the 5 districts of Botswana with the highest HIV prevalence rates and all 4 regions of Swaziland. We used multivariable logistic regression to identify correlates of forced sex victimization and perpetration. Results. Lifetime prevalence rat…
Wolfe Et Al. Respond
Gamper et al. raise an important concern regarding our sample. As we noted in our limitations section, although individuals were randomly selected from the 5 districts of Botswana with the highest number of HIV infected individuals, we did not sample from the more remote districts of Botswana, limiting the generalizability of our results. It is important to note, however, that the outcome of greatest interest in our study is the one showing an as…
The Impact of Universal Access to Antiretroviral Therapy on HIV Stigma in Botswana
Objectives. We sought to examine the impact of treatment access on HIV stigma in Botswana 3 years after the introduction of a national program of universal access to antiretroviral therapy. Methods. We studied the prevalence and correlates of HIV stigma in a population-based study of 1268 adults in Botswana in 2004. We used multivariate logistic regression to assess correlates of stigmatizing attitudes and a new measure, anticipated HIV stigma. R…
Effects of HIV-related stigma among an early sample of patients receiving antiretroviral therapy in Botswana
Botswana, with its estimated HIV prevalence of 37%, instituted a policy of universal access to antiretroviral therapy (ART) in 2002. Initial enrolment lagged behind expectations, with a shortfall in voluntary testing that observers have attributed to HIV-related stigma - although there are no published data on stigma among HIV-positive individuals in Botswana. We interviewed 112 patients receiving ART in 2000, finding evidence of pervasive stigma…
Barriers to Antiretroviral Adherence for Patients Living with HIV Infection and Aids in Botswana
BACKGROUND: Botswana has the highest rate of HIV infection in the world, estimated at 36% among the population aged 15-49 years. To improve antiretroviral (ARV) treatment delivery, we conducted a cross-sectional study of the social, cultural, and structural determinants of treatment adherence. METHODS: We used both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, including questionnaires and interviews with patients receiving ARV treatment an…
