Family Caregivers’ Experiences of Formal Peer Support in a Finnish Setting – a Socioecological Understanding
Each attribute of peer support [emotional, informational, and appraisal support] formed its own, yet interlinked, ecosystem. Experiences of peer support are beyond programme delivery, and future studies could employ a socioecological framework when further delving into attributes of formal peer support among family caregivers in specific target groups and/or settings
Systematic Literature Review of Decision‐Analytic Modeling Studies on Nature‐Based Social Prescribing and Loneliness
Nature‐based social prescribing (NBSP) is an evolving subject aiming to reduce loneliness and to foster social connections, health, and well‐being. To evaluate the short‐term and long‐term consequences of different health technologies, decision‐analytic modeling can be applied. Decision‐analytic modeling studies systematically integrate current short‐ and long‐term evidence to weigh benefits, harms, and costs of different strategies. Our systemat…

Is education level, as a proxy for socio-economic position, related to device-measured and self-reported sedentary behavior in European older adults? A cross-sectional study from the Sitless project
Background Sedentary behavior (SB) is a determinant of health in older adult people. Educational level is a primary driver of health disparities and is demonstrated to be a reliable measure of socioeconomic position. We aimed to examine the associations between educational level and self-reported along with device-measured SB in older adults living in Europe and the association of mentally active and passive SB domains with the educational level …
Subjective psychological impacts during Covid‐19 lockdown on older people, risk profiles and coping strategies
This study explores the psychological impacts of lockdown among older people during the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic in Spain, and identifies risk profiles and adaptative behaviors. A cross‐sectional online survey was disseminated by social networks through snowball sampling (April–June 2020). The survey included ad‐hoc questions about psychological impacts on subjective cognitive functioning, emotional distress, and loneliness. Open end‐que…
Urinary Incontinence and Its Association with Physical and Psycho-Cognitive Factors
Urinary incontinence (UI) is a common geriatric syndrome affecting bladder health and is especially prevalent in nursing homes (NHs). The aim of the study was to determine the prevalence of UI and its associated factors in five Spanish NHs. UI (measured with Minimum Data Set 3.0), sociodemographic, and health-related variables were collected. Chi-square (or Fisher's) or Student's t -test (or Mann Whitney U) for bivariate analysis were used, with …

The weekly group-based program "Paths: from loneliness to participation" was conducted face-to-face over 15 sessions by nurses, social workers and volunteers in primary care in Catalonia (Spain) to alleviate loneliness among older people by promoting peer support and participation in community assets. We aimed at exploring participants' experiences of loneliness and participation prior to the program and its perceived benefits. The qualitative de…

The Finnish Expert Caregiver intervention sought to train former caregivers to become volunteers aiming to support current caregivers through mainly peer support. The aims of this mixed method non-controlled exploratory intervention study were to assess the feasibil…

Promoting social capital to alleviate loneliness and improve health among older people in Spain
Loneliness is especially frequent among older people in Southern Europe. Furthermore, promoting social capital to tackle loneliness and its health effects is an understudied intervention strategy. Therefore, a complex intervention was piloted in Spain in a pre-post study with a 2-year follow-up. Its aims were to explore the feasibility of the intervention and its short- and long-term effects. It was conducted in one mixed rural-urban and two urba…
