  • Mindfulness in virtual reality or mindfulness-based cognitive therapy? Unraveling a more effective way to improve college students’ sleep quality

  • Free school meals and educational outcomes

Open Access•Zhanli Ma, Ye Ma et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2025

The education gap between urban and rural areas has long been a significant challenge for developing countries. This study evaluates the impact of China’s large-scale Nutrition Improvement Program (NIP) on the educational outcomes of rural children, investigating the root causes of the urban–rural education divide from the early stages of human capital development. Using data from the China Family Panel Studies (2010–2020), we reveal three notabl…

  • Coupling coordination degree and influencing factors of forestry modernization and high quality economic development

Open Access•Chao Zhou, Shenwei Wan et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2024

Introduction: Forestry modernization (FM) and High quality economic development (HED) are two major goals that must be achieved in the process of economic development from low to high, and they are closely related to each other in their respective internal development mechanisms. Methods: Based on the analysis of the coupling coordination mechanism between FM and HED, this paper empirically studies the coupling coordination degree and influencing…

  • A self-paced reading study of context effects in the processing of aspectual verbs in Mandarin

Open Access•Ye Ma, Brian Buccola et al.•ARTICLE•Language and Cognition•2024

Research in the past few years has investigated the semantic complexity of expressions with aspectual verbs followed by entity-denoting complements such as finish the book that led to processing costs cross-linguistically. The Structured Individual Hypothesis (SIH) proposes that aspectual verbs lexically encode a function whose value (dimension) must be resolved. This ambiguity resolution is hypothesized to occur at the verb’s complement, where a…

  • Measuring China’s performance in the world economy

Open Access•Ye Ma, Herman De Jong et al.•ARTICLE•Revista de historia industrial•2022

This study draws attention to China’s industrialisation before WWII and gives a new starting point to review early industrial development in history. This study provides the first estimates of purchasing power parity (PPP) converters for the early 1910s between China and the UK. Statistical indicators, comparative output and labour productivity, are then calculated to address queries regarding the relative level that China’s early manufacturing h…

  • Do Parents of Children with ADHD Know the Disease? Results from a Cross-Sectional Survey in Zhejiang, China

Open Access•Xiaoli Fan, Ye Ma et al.•ARTICLE•Children•2022

Parents' knowledge, attitudes, and beliefs about attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are crucial in the selection of the treatment strategy and how to care for children with ADHD. However, little is known about parents' conception in mainland China. A semi-structured questionnaire was used to assess this information with 25 true/false questions regarding ADHD, and other questions investigating the methods of acquiring ADHD-related inf…

  • Migration and Transformation of Cd in Pig Manure–Insect Frass (Hermetia illucens)–Soil–Maize System

Open Access•Xiaobo Wang, Nan Wu et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

Little is known about the fate of heavy metals in the recycling system of animal manure-black soldier fly larvae (BSFL) transformation-larval frass application. In this work, BSFL-transformed pig manure with different concentrations of exogenous cadmium (Cd) (0, 3, 15, 30 mg kg -1 ), and the obtained BSFL frass fertilizer were further used in pot experiments of maize planting to explore Cd migration during the whole recycling system. Results show…

  • Social support, stigma, and the mediating roles of depression on self-reported medication adherence of Haart recipients in China

Man Jiang, Jiezhe Yang et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS Care•2019

Discrimination of people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) is a persistent issue in China, which affects their psychological health. However, the association between psychological factors and adherence to highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) has not been systematically investigated before. Therefore, this study examined the impact of social support, depression, and medication-taking self-efficacy on ART adherence among PLWHA based on Cha et al…

  • Chinese National Income, ca. 1661–1933

Open Access•Yi Xu, Zhihong Shi et al.•ARTICLE•Australian Economic History Review•2017

In recent decades, national income has become increasingly important as a measure of a nation's economic health. In this study, we used a wide array of primary and secondary sources to arrive at values of the Chinese per capita gross domestic product during the period of 1661–1933. We found a persistent decline in the per capita gross domestic product between the seventeenth and nineteenth centuries, followed by a period of stagnation. This patte…

  • Chinese Regions in the Great Divergence

    Open Access•Paul Caruana‐galizia, Paul Caruana-Galizia et al.•ARTICLE•Australian Economic History Review•2015

We construct 1912/18 Chinese provincial gross domestic product per capita from primary sources and project cross-sections for 1873 and 1893. The results fit the historical record. We hypothesise that regionally specific conflicts have a role to play in explaining differential growth rates, and that geography, governance, and sectoral structures explain relative income-level rankings. China's richest provinces matched Europe's poorest. A divergenc…

  • Knowledge and perceptions of sexual and reproductive health and HIV among perinatally HIV-infected adolescents in rural China

Weiwei Mu, Yan Zhao et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS Care•2015

Due to the success of highly active antiretroviral therapy, more children infected with HIV perinatally are living to adolescence. This brings new challenges on sexual and reproductive health (SRH) needs and psychosocial support specific to adolescents. To improve such efforts on long-term care of this vulnerable population, we assessed SRH and HIV knowledge and perceptions among perinatally HIV-infected adolescents (PHIVA). This descriptive cros…

  • Incidence and associated factors of pulmonary tuberculosis in HIV-infected children after highly active antiretroviral therapy (Haart) in China

Weiwei Mu, Yan Zhao et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS Care•2014

China is a country with high tuberculosis (TB) incidence but relatively low HIV prevalence. However, due to difficulties in diagnosis and reporting, true burden of HIV-associated TB in children is unknown. The objective of this study was to describe the incidence of pulmonary TB (PTB) after antiretroviral therapy (ART) and to study risk factors. A retrospective study was performed based on routinely collected data from China national pediatric fr…

  • Some patient-related factors associated with late access to ART in China's free ART program

Yi Wen, Yi Feng Wen et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS Care•2011

Highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) has become widely available in China during the past seven years. However, many patients still initiate treatment at very late stages. To understand the distribution of baseline CD4 and factors associated with late antiretroviral therapy (ART) access, the National Free ART Database was retrospectively reviewed and a total of 49,321 HIV/AIDS patients were identified in this study based on the following …

  • Progress of the National Pediatric Free Antiretroviral Therapy program in China

Yan Zhao, Xin Sun et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS Care•2010

In 2003, the Chinese Government initiated a free antiretroviral therapy (ART) program focusing on adult AIDS patients. Pediatric antiretroviral (ARV) formulations were yet unavailable. It was not until July 2005, with the initiation of a two-stage program implemented by the Chinese Ministry of Health, that pediatric formulations became accessible in China. Initially, the pediatric ART program was piloted in six provinces with the highest incidenc…
