  • Increased salinity decreases annual gross primary productivity at a Northern California brackish tidal marsh

    Open Access•Sarah J Russell, Lisamarie Windham‐Myers et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2023

Tidal marshes sequester 11.4–87.0 Tg C yr −1 globally, but climate change impacts can threaten the carbon capture potential of these ecosystems. Tidal marshes occur across a wide range of salinity, with brackish marshes (0.5–18 ppt (parts per thousand)) dominating global tidal marsh extents. A diverse mix of freshwater- and saltwater-tolerant plant and microbial communities has led researchers to predict that carbon cycling in brackish wetlands m…

  • The significance of truth and love in authentic racial reconciliation

    Open Access•Frank Anderson, Frank L Anderson•ARTICLE•Review & Expositor•2020

Racial reconciliation, far from being about civil conversation, requires whites to listen to the painful truths blacks have to tell about race in the United States. James Cone’s critique of the white church is held up as a truth that the white community must embrace even if it has substantial objections to the rest of Cone’s theology. Reconciliation means listening to the kind of hard truths Cone has to offer

  • Potential for negative emissions of greenhouse gases (CO 2 , CH 4 and N 2 O) through coastal peatland re-establishment

    Open Access•Lisamarie Windham‐Myers, Brian A Bergamaschi et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2018

High productivity temperate wetlands that accrete peat via belowground biomass (peatlands) may be managed for climate mitigation benefits due to their global distribution and notably negative emissions of atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO _2 ) through rapid storage of carbon (C) in anoxic soils. Net emissions of additional greenhouse gases (GHG)—methane (CH _4 ) and nitrous oxide (N _2 O)—are more difficult to predict and monitor due to fine-scale t…
