The Twilight of the Early Helladics
The Wagner Hill Ballcourt Community and Other Cohonina Sites
This article describes for the first time the important Cohonina ballcourt site (NA10519), which lies south of Wagner Hill, near the northern border of Prescott National Forest, Arizona. A series of small sites within 3 km of this ballcourt appears to form a dispersed community centered around it. Also studied are three other Hohokam-style ballcourts at Cohonina sites on the Mogollon Rim between Wagner Hill and Sycamore Point, northeast of Perkin…
Lithic Source Identification Through Macroscopic Analysis
During the course of the archaeological survey project conducted between 1972 and 1973 on Cedar Mesa, southeastern Utah, the problem of the sources of prehistoric Anasazi stone tool material and the implications of material distributional variation through time was studied. A methodology for differentiating discrete material types was employed based on macroscopic analysis and differentiation of recovered site materials and comparison with identi…
Identifying Edge Damage on Surf Ace Occurring Lithic Artifacts
New Light on the Tolchaco Problem
Data from the surface collection of a large lithic site in the Little Colorado Valley show the site to be a locus of lithic material procurement, possibly used over a long period of time by various groups. The site location and lithic materials indicate it is a Tolchaco manifestation. These findings support the hypothesis that Tolchaco delineates a site type rather than a specific cultural complex or focus
