A survey that includes a representative sample (n = 3,219) of older persons (age 60+) living in the Philadelphia area was used to determine if health status and health behaviors of older Jews differ from that of non-Jews. Holocaust survivors in long-term care
Little research exists on the experience of older trauma survivors in long-term care settings. This study examined the experience of Holocaust survivors in community-based and facility-based long-term care. We wished to know if Holocaust survivors had a systematically different experience in such settings compared to persons without a trauma experience in their backgrounds. The older American Jewish population
The 2013 Pew Research Center survey of American Jews provided an opportunity to examine trends in identity and identification among older American Jews. By comparing findings from this survey to findings from similar surveys in 1990 and 2000/2001 we were able to examine patterns of continuing integration into the American religious mainstream and away from more traditional religious and ethnic ways of expressing their Jewish identity
The Contemporary Study of Religion and Spirituality Among the Elderly
Much of the contemporary study of the intersection of aging, religion, and health is based on the assumption that religiousness and spirituality can be accurately measured by certain scales and measures. There has been a growing interest on the part of GSA members about aging outside of the United States and we wanted to contribute to this developing interest by offering a session on the topic focusing on aging persons from the Middle East. This article reviews literature on religion and aging from several prominent, mainstream journals on aging to determine if the information can be useful in planning for the needs of older Jews. The authors find that the manner in which the term “religion” is used in many of these articles makes them of little use

A Two-factor Model of Caregiving Appraisal and Psychological Well-Being
Groups of spouse (N = 285) and adult child (N = 244) caregivers of elderly parents suffering from Alzheimer's disease were interviewed regarding their caregiving behaviors, evaluations of caregiving, and general psychological well-being. Caregivers of disabled older people were studied in terms of their appraisal of the caregiving process.
