    Open Access•Jose Elias-Ulloa•ARTICLE•Lexis•2022

  • Upper-Chambira Urarina

    Open Access•Jose Elias-Ulloa, Rolando Muñoz Aramburú•ARTICLE•Journal of the International…•2021

Urarina (ISO 639-3, code ura – Lewis, Simons & Fennig 2016) is an Amazonian language isolate spoken in the Loreto Region of Peru. Most Urarina communities are located on the banks of the rivers Corrientes, Chambira and Urituyacu, which are tributaries of the Marañon River, which in turn is the mainstem source of the Amazon River. Figure 1 shows the map of Peru and the location of the Urarina territory

  • Lexical Category-Governed Neutralization to Coronal and Non-Coronal Place of Articulation in Latent Consonants

    Open Access•Jose Elias-Ulloa•ARTICLE•Languages•2021•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 22

This study documents and accounts for the behavior of the place of articulation of latent segments in the Panoan languages Shipibo-Konibo and Capanahua. In these languages, the lexical category of the word governs the place of articulation (PoA) of latent consonants. Latent segments only surface when they are syllabified as syllable onsets. They surface as coronal consonants when they are part of verbs; but they occur as non-coronal consonants wh…

    Open Access•Jose Elias-Ulloa•ARTICLE•Lengua y Sociedad•2011

  • Shipibo-Spanish

    Open Access•Liliana Sánchez, Jocelyn Camacho et al.•ARTICLE•Second language Research•2010•Citada por: 2•Referencias: 6

In this article, we present a study that tests the Interface Hypothesis (Sorace and Filiaci, 2006) at the syntax—pragmatics interface and its possible extension to the syntax—morphology interface in two groups of first language (L1) speakers of Shipibo with different levels of formal instruction in Spanish as a second language (L2). Shipibo is a mixed null subject language that only allows third person null subjects and has no person morphology o…

  • The Distribution of Laryngeal Segments in Capanahua

    Jose Elias-Ulloa, José Elías‐ulloa•ARTICLE•International Journal of American…•2009•Citada por: 5•Referencias: 4

The aim of this study is to enhance the documentation of laryngeal segments in Capanahua and to contribute to studies of the interaction between prosodic structure and segments. Laryngeal segments in Capanahua show a number of positional effects. They can only surface within morpheme‐initial syllables. This study shows that within that position, the distinction between head and nonhead syllables plays a major role in governing the alternations sh…
